Please don't talk nonsense. You don't know what you are talking about. Stop being manipulated by other Anonymous mentioned. You need to be quiet and let's focus on Unity. We want CNRP and CPP to reunite as one without fight each others in order to change the leaders. We wish all Khmer/Cambodian citizens or members of major parties CNRP and CPP to merge after the merger of SRP and HRP including other small parties like Khmer Democratic, KPPM, etc.
So, stop fighting each others. We need to work together to save our Khmer nation.
It is timing. Khmer folks both at home and abroad (USA, Australia, NZ, France, Canada, S. Korea, Japan, and so on), please stop fighting each others and please take the positive outlooks and stop hating other because of the Vietnamese/Yuon manipulation and don't let our neighbors Yuon/Viet and Siam/Thai to see our weakness.

I deeply understand your wishes.
I am a Khmer and I don't want to deplore a dead person, but to form a solid solidarity, we must know the characters, and the principals of what those persons (leaders) stand for.
The rise of the Khmer Rouge to power was largely stemming from Sihanouk's anger – he was called on Khmer people to go to prey marquis and fight Lon Nol/ Sirikamtak, who had destroyed Vietnam's reseau immediately after Sihanouk's fall. At the time, Cambodia was literally Vietnamese free.
If Sihanouk was a nationalist, he should leave Lon Nol/ Sirikmatak alone and called on Khmer people to support Lon Nol/ Sirikmatak because they protected Cambodia against Vietnam.
In addition, Vietnam's manipulation was also attributed to the Khmer Rouge's ascent. Vietnam clearly aimed at making the Khmer Rouge and Khmer Vietminh to demolish all Lon Nol's supporters. Vietnam got more than what it had wished for thanks to its tactic of creating "suspicion" between Khmers. That's why the killings during the Pol Pot's era were so rampant because of Vietnam's manipulation.
Another major mistake that Sihanouk made was his expulsion of the UN’s mission in Cambodia after the CPP lost the 1993 election. Sihanouk put the throne above Cambodia's survival.
Concerning the unification between the CNRP and CPP, it totally depends on the CPP.
If the CPP cannot even overhaul the NEC, it is almost impossible for the CNRP to unite with it.
If the CPP is truly not under Vietnam's control, it must be able to do what is right. We should never underestimate Vietnam's determination to swallow Cambodia. Vietnam will relieve its grip on Cambodia unless there is an external formidable force coming from the powerful countries that would badly harm its economy, such as boycotting their import from Vietnam..
We, as Khmer, must prove to those powerful countries about Vietnam’s bad intention toward Cambodia so that they could help us.
In brief, Sihanouk bad deeds heavily outweigh his good deeds. And it is understandable that Khmer people cheer his dead. He was/is/ and always will be a traitor (3 million Khmer dead, and Cambodia is currently a satellite of Vietnam).
Whoever implemented the bilateral treaties with Vietnam, instead of implementing the 1991 Paris peace accord, and allowing the mass influx of the Vietnamese into Cambodia to destroy most of Khmer natural resource – making Khmer to become a minority in the near future - and gave a Vietnamese the right to control Khmer soul Angkor Wat are traitors.

Pissed Off, used to be my favourite commenter, but often i find that he is to soft hearted and often will avoid the sensitive issue, such as the action of traitor Sihanouk leading to the death of 3 million Khmer persih under the Vietnamese installed puppet, Pol Pot.
Regading the subject. The traitor Sihanouk had any chances to come clean, but instead of fixing the wrongs he had committed in his life. He instead hides in China, sing songs about missing China, and never seem to care about the people that died following his orders even those who followed as he was at one time one of the top Khmer Rouge officials.
I say, this evil King should have died next to Pol Pot or at least be buried alive next to Pol Pot 20 years ago..now hes been alive for to long, the Khmer people felt sorry for him after having been brainwashed by the CPP and Vietnamese.
Too bad he died without giving one last hopeful speech to his people who many still believe in him. He could of speak up about the land issues, inequality, and corruptions. He stayed mum for the sake of Norodoms reign. In the end the Kingdom ended with him. He died as a coward man instead of a brave one. He left his subjects in ruin and in return to keep his name alive. Just sad.
If khmer leaders were loyal enough, our enemies would never take advantage of us or our downfall. So, it was King ta's fault for creating chaos among our fellow khmers like, instead of treating each other equally, he abused his power by using favour, e.g best friend like Lon Nol turned into PM in which he had no experienced or any expert in any political field whatsoever. whereas in the west, we would look into their educational background as well as their aims e.g what do they want to achieve for our khmer nation? etc. This king hated most of our educated ones because of fear of losing his seat to one of them. But this paranoid of his did not help on how to rule or build the nation. As a result of this, he ruined his own nation/country and monarchy. Now, no one wants this bloodline of his to be king no more. They are nothing but a curse for our nation and country, might as well piss off for good.

The King rightly angered by Lon Nol, and He did not force the barbaric Khmer Rouge to kill all those KR victims. The great powers and the opportunistic neighbor left his majesty with no good option because they all looked down and treated Cambodia as a pawn of a Viet dominated Indochina.
Without Norodom Sihanouk, Cambodia would have already disappeared from the world.
A great price that the King and all Cambodians had to pay through the upheaval of the communist vietcong and Khmer Rouge.
Lon Nol was a convenient actor in a game that the director already decided the story was ending. Kissinger had already negotiated with the vietcong to end the war, at the time when both parties dragged the little country of Cambodia into their quagmire.
We need to reconcile and forgive to be able to move forward. It will no doubt be difficult for us, especially those of us who were old enough to exeperience the tragic page of our history book; however, our younger children and grand children need to see us being much higher than our past tragedy, current hatred and intolerance. We all have to re-learn how to love to heal the nation.

At least in my experiences, the local, base Khmer Rouge cadres were directly responsible for the execution killing of the innocent who were treated as prisoners at the different villages and work camps; the high leadership of the Khmer Rouge were responsible for the failed policy that contributed to the deaths of starvation and diseases, and the political killings in places like Tuol Sleng. They were responsible for the killing and persecution of their own cadres such the current government ministers and prime minister, and for allowing free range for those uneducated peasants to cruely treated the Phnom Penh evacuees. Tuol Sleng and Bung Trabek prisoners were all Khmer Rouge cadres. The killing at Tuol Sleng and places like that had nothing to do with the King.

Yes, it depends on CPP officials/leaders and supports and it may or may not be possible to merge between CNRP and CPP because there are many traitors and illegal Yuon/Vietnamese backers/supporters (not Khmer/Cambodians) among CPP. The number of Khmer supports of CPP that was claimed to be larger than the number of SRP or HRP was false and fake because CPP controlled NEC.
There must be more Khmer supporters than the Khmer supporters of CPP, but CPP cheated.

Many of the commentators are not steep in Cambodian history and they tend to write what they see or heard from some where but what about those things that they can't see?
For example: Some commentators blamed King Sihanouk for the death of 3 million Cambodian. Now if King Sihanouk was under house arrest during the Khmer Rouge and how could King Sihanouk kill 3 million Cambodian? King Sihanouk refused to cooperate with the Khmer Rouge that is why he was put under house arrest!
Simple put these commentators lack the information and they fail to do research on their own to find the truth and waiting to be spoon fed like a baby! Some even know the truth but they chose not to believe it!

King Sihanouk DID NOT create Khmer Rouge. Khmer Rouge group was created in 1930 by Communist Vietnam. He was only 8 years old, how can he created Khmer Rouge?
There were too many confusions in Cambodia because Vietnamese were deeply infiltrated inside Cambodia since the Viet revolution networks based in Thailand begun.
The real problems came from Vietnamese Expansionism policies and then Revolution networks started since early 1900.
Most Khmers in the countryside joined Viet Minh and many thousand Khmers were taken to Hanoi, you can read some documents about Son Ngoc Minh (A Viet spy)...

That is totally bullshit, the mighty US and South Vietnamese could not contain the communist vietcong/NVN, what make you think the rag tag army of Lon Nol who lacked almost everything could withstand the communists? The Khmer Rouge were comrades in arm, with both the then Soviet Union and China fully backing them up.
King Sihanouk made a tough decision to join the communists because he got no one to turn to at the time. He subsequently became grateful to the Chinese because they stuck with him through out his hard times.
The lesson for the current Cambodian leader is fork him to be smart and not greedy for power, because doing so - clinging to power - requires constant support from someone(Viet, China, or US) and being vulnerable to thier changes in interests. If the country is set up so that smooth and sound succession plan is constantly maintained, they cannot hold any particular person hostage as long-term puppet.
All powerful countries maintain their national interests as paramount to the individual interests. Even communist countries such as China and Vietnam are set up that no individual person can hold long term power and corrupt their national interests.
Cambodian people should mourn the King's death because of the memories of his works and love for them, but they should not cry because of the feeling of despair and because they feel he is the only capable or divine person to lead the country.

The token gesture fron the US barely covered the near starvation condition of Cambodia. Even with massive military and food aids to the Thieu government of South Vietnatm, they could not beat the vietminhs and vietcongs. Lon Nol did not have a damn chance to beat the communists.
The Americans did not support wholeheartedly their allies in that conflict, that was why the communists were able to win. The US administration buckled under the pressure from the Americans at home who opposed the war. Sihanouk calculated correctly to believe that the US would eventually get out of Indochina.
Sihanouk had no good options, but to trust and depend on the Chinese or he would face the same fate as did Lon Nol and Sirimatak. It is now very similar to HS, he is also walking and balancing on a tight rope.
The Chinese will, just like the American, play what ever card to gain upper hand on the US. They will play with the vietcong or CPP when doing so will benefit them.
This time it is not the same like when Sihanouk and Zhou En Laiy develop their relationship. The burden and obligation based on tradition value are now gone with the passing of Sihanouk. This time, the Chinese could ally themselves with the vietcong and carve up and share political, economic and military control over indochina with no inteference from Russia (former USSR), and as a result, keeping ASEAN, and ultimately the US in check and unable to contain their eventual and further expansion.
Cambodia could in fact be the wild card for the US to use to prevent the latter scenario described immediately above. Whatever scenario, the US needs to assure whomever it counts as ally that the committment is to endure and sustain for the long run.
