A Thai ranger dispatched to the disputed zone near the Phreah Vihear temple, who was seriously wounded in a skirmish last week, was pronounced dead on Tuesday. With such great loss and grievance, how will his family cope with the future? More details in this report.
This young girl, nicknamed Neung, is the only daughter of Boonyarit Kantee, the late Thai ranger attached to the 23rd Paramilitary Trooper Company.
Boonyarit was seriously wounded in an exchange of gunfire with Cambodian troop on October 15, while on duty near the Preah Vihear temple.
The seven-year-old girl said her father visited her only once or twice a month when he was alive. On the day of the skirmish, he gave her a call and that was the last time the little girl heard his voice.
"Dad told me not to be naughty or cause mum trouble. He said he had to go to work," said Neung.
Boonyarit Kantee was originally from Thailand’s central province of Saraburi. He moved to the northeastern province of Si Sa Ket where he settled with his family. He had been a paramilitary ranger since 1987. He once jointly fought with Thai troops in the Romklao battle and had been on duty along Thailand’s northeastern border.
Before leaving for assignment at the border near the Preah Vihear temple, Boonyarit had told his father not to worry.
"He said we all would have to die no matter where we were, and he would be willing to die for the country," said Boonyarit's father Subin Kantee.
When Boonyarit was off duty, he would spend time with his family and relax by listening to music. At home, he would strum his guitar to unwind from his stressful job.
Boonyarit’s demise is definitely a huge loss and grief for the Kantee family but everyone is proud of his sacrifice for the kingdom.
"I am proud of him. He did his best in the duty he loved. He loved military life; he did the best he could," said Boomyarit’s wife Parimakorn Kantee.
Here is a motto most rangers learn by heart: "I’m a fearless fighter. I’m a great ranger who protects and fights for the Thai fraternity. Though I die, my name is never forgotten."
Boonyarit always kept to the motto and performed his duty accordingly with a strong spirit.

Only one family is allow to speak up how about the others Thai soldier, nobody to grieve on their death.
Cambodia is being VIETNAMIZED, Khmer leaders sold Cambodia for thier own pockets. There were over
100,000 Viets troops occupying Cambodia, plus 5 to 6 millions Viets are resettled in Cambodia. Viets administered all ministeries (krak sourng).
If Thai armies will not liberate Cambodia, she will be a state of the Viet Indochinese Federation.

Agree. To survive, as they can not manage themselves, khmer people just have the choice to be eaten by the tiger (thai) or the crocodile (Viet). To my khmer blood in Thailand: If you are a true khmer blood you should dispatch yourself from Thailand. You need not joint khmer but be your own independence state. I would mind to see that happend. If you want us to joint you and be under thai rule, just forget it. Why don't you want to be your own boss instead of under Siam or Youn.
Let us all united. It would be nice to see current khmer territory, khmer territory under Youn, and Khmer territory under Siam united as one. Any khmer blood can be leader elected by all khmers.
If this is too much for everyone. Then khmer under Siam be independence from Siam be one state. Khmer under Youn be independence from Youn as one state. Then we can joint as a federation. It could be called as 'The United Federation of Khmer, UFK'

To khmer Siam comment above: Youn will not allow thailand to survive had khmer disapeared back then. You are dreaming that you can have haft of cambodian and Youn have another haft.

of course, there will be emotional pain and suffering on both sides over death of their loved ones. so, think seriously about going to war over something that could be worked out diplomatically. and of course, thailand must stop bullying cambodia, etc... who care if your military is superior to cambodia, that's not the point. the point is thailand needs to examine its head so they need to respect the international treaty regardless how old that treaty is, and thailand needs to respect the icj verdict and the 1907 treaty that gave birth to the present international boundarylines of cambodia and our neighbors today. you can't just decided on your own unilaterally to draw up your own map then use that map to negotiate with cambodia as cambodia cannot accept that, period because that is not the treaty that settled this in the first place! thailand needs to teach its people to respect the law, whether they like it or not! if they talk about how they rankle with the issue, cambodian people rankle more than them for have had a huge loss of our former lands and territories, not only to thailand, but also to vietnam and laos for that matter. so, stop play this rankling game with cambodia. law is law, get used to it! the real issue should be properly demarcating the entire borderlines so this kind of problem will be be questionable or vague anymore when proper demarcation is in place because without this proper demarcation of our borderline, this kind of problem or conflict will be inevitable. so, stop thinking so one-sided, thailand and your people, and start thinking about how cambodia and our khmer people think of you as well. remember the old saying: "what goes around comes around". so, there!!!
