On the cold afternoon of 29 October 2005, a number of Cambodian-Americans and Cambodian-Canadians have gathered in front of the Cambodian Embassy in Washington DC to demonstarte and make the following demand:
- The immediate release of Mr. Mam Sonando, Mr. Rong Chhun who are currently jailed for voicing their critics on Prime Minister Hun Sen's signature of a Supplemental Treaty to the 1985 illegal treaty.
- The release of Member of Parliament Cheam Channy who is now jailed after being accused by Prime Minister Hun Sen of forming a shadow army.
- The drop of all charges on those criticizing Prime Minister Hun Sen's border policies.
- The Cambodian King and Members of Parliament should not ratify this Supplemental Treaty.
VOA reported that banners carried by the demonstrators read:
- Hun Sen is a traitor
- Hun Sen is a criminal
- Hun Sen must respect Article 55 of the Constitution
Some of the demonstrators have traveled by car up to 15 hours with their entire family from different areas to join this demonstration. They feel that the survival of Cambodia is at stake.
