Opposition party leader wrote a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen and prince Norodom Ranariddh, National Assembly's president, urging them to form a new government by using a majority vote of 50% plus one formula at the National Assembly.

The Assembly has to vote to establish trust in forming a new government, when it used 2/3 majority votes like they have done in the past. Mr. Sam Rainsy says that this is a problem, making a political quagmire.

The National Assembly has 123 seats.

Fifty percent of 123 seats plus one might give opposition Sam Rainsy party a chance to win in the next election. Many political analysts think that the opposition party might have a chance.

Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith welcomes this formula saying they have to have amendments but this decision will not have any impact on the ruling parties, the CPP and FUNCINPEC.
