In an attempt to deflect charges leveled against himself and his party, Prince Ranariddh is playing the "political finger pointing game"

Trying to deflect charges made by prime minister Hun Sen for nominating incompetent people to important government positions, Prince Ranariddh, Funcinpec party president, is instead playing a "political finger pointing game". He is accusing Sam Rainsy and his party, the SRP, of being greedy in obtaining governing power, in particular in trying to wrestle away from Funcinpec some National Assembly committee appointments.

During a meeting with members of the commune council at the Funcinpec headquarter in Kandal province on Sunday morning, Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh confirmed the strength of the cooperation between Funcinpec and the CPP party.

Prince Ranariddh said: “Don’t push me out of the so-called very close cooperation between the leadership of the CPP party and that of the Funcinpec. I tell you, Samdech Chea Sim, he called me directly over the phone to tell me: Samdech [Krom Preah], we are remaining as brothers, we still loved each other, we should not fight each other at all. I replied: Samdech [Chea Sim] is like a father to me. I am only the son, we still love each other, hold each other hands to build the country. I am not selling myself as the Sam Rainsy Party accused me of, I am helping the country…”

Responding to the charge leveled against his party, accusing it of loving only power, Prince Norodom Ranariddh said that the charge is a lie.

The prince confirmed: “The Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) said that I love power. What love of power? In 1993, I sacrificed and gave away everything; in 1998, I did it again for His Majesty [King-Father]; last year, I refused the throne; now, I step down from the presidency of the National Assembly. The SRP only makes demand. It demands this and that committee [of the National Assembly], but we did not demand for anything at all, they accused us of loving power. This is really a lie. I want you people to know, I don’t want to talk about Sam Rainsy, but he took off his pant in public already, we do not need to help him take it off, that’s enough, people already know everything already. Let’s not talk about them, let’s talk about ourselves instead.”
