Phnom Penh - A Cambodian man confessed to strangling his new bride before unsuccessfully attempting to hang himself because she refused to have sex with him, police said Wednesday.
Sampov Meas district police chief Len Song from the central province of Pursat said farmer Soung Chan, 26, had admitted to throttling his new bride Thou Mey, 18, after she told him she had married him as a virgin and she intended to remain that way.
'Chan said he tried many times over a period of 40 days to coax his new wife into sleeping with him, but she said she would never do it, so he decided there was no point in marriage and strangled her with a scarf,' Song said by telephone.
He said Chan then attempted to hang himself with a cattle rope but was saved by police and neighbours.
Song said the incident happened late last Friday but that Chan had since been released from hospital and charged with second degree murder by Pursat Provincial Court. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
'He did not plan the killing, but when she said no the last time, he overreacted,' Song said.

Dangg!, this killing is not necessary. It's so lame if you think of life this way. The Bride shouldn't have died this way at all. If she has refused to give Love to her husband especiall on you Honeymood night (Rea Trai Teik Kmoum, then what is her point of getting married to him in the first place? Does she know what the meaning of Marriage is all about? Geese! It's about caring, giving, fullfilling each other needs and desire. Everone of us has lust. A man need Sex in a marriage and visa then relation will flurish. If this doesn't happen, if she still refused then he could have just leave her alone, leave her, but not killing her, which is wrong. There's planty of Khmer girls in Srok Khemr, better then here in US, which is very limited. At that time I thing he allowed his MoJo to completely took/controled him mind which let him to kill..what a morron just for not getting a chance to score. He could have just find another alternative to relief himself if she still insist on remaining a Virgin. I think she wanted to be another Virgin Marry or something.
what a crazy story. He could have just contacted me, I can hook him up with all type of girls I know over in Srok Khmer.
What the hell of this man. In any reason, he must seriousely be punised.
