Sean Pengse will not back down from the Cambodia-Vietnam border confrontation with the current Cambodian government

Mr. Sean Pengse, the President of the Cambodia’s Border Committee (CBC) in France, is starting to provide opposite reaction to the Cambodian government on the border issue between Cambodia and her neighbors, in particular with Vietnam. He insists that the supplemental treaty concluded between the two countries late last year is unconstitutional and caused Cambodia to lose land.
Information from France indicated that Mr. Sean Pengse wanted to write a letter to prime minister Hun Sen like others [such as Kem Sokha, Mam Sonando, Pa Nguon Teang, Rong Chhun, Sam Rainsy, Say Bory, etc…] did also in the spirit of national reconciliation. However, Mr. Sean Pengse changed his mind following pressure from CBC members. Mr. Sean Pengse still continues his criticisms of the Hun Sen government policy on this supplemental border treaty issue.
The same information source indicated that Mr. Sean Pense and CBC will continue criticizing the [border] treaties even though Mr. Say Bory [King-Father senior advisor who was threatened to be thrown in jail by Hun Sen] had agreed with the government.
Mr. Say Bory returned back to Cambodia last week, following his 7-month self-exile and after sending a letter to prime minister Hun Sen.
Mr. Say Bory currently lives in peace without any disturbance from the Hun Sen authorities, even if his court case had not been completely dismissed. It is expected that the court will completely dismiss his case in the near future, just as it recently did for the human rights activists and journalists who had criticized the government on border issue in the past.
We observe that Mr. Sean Pengse had criticized the government 3 times already in the past month.
Government officials have not yet reacted to Mr. Sean Pengse’s criticisms. Currently, the government is applying the treaty which it had concluded with its Vietnamese counterpart.
Some analysts said that the incessant repeat on Mr. Sean Pengse on border issues will not have any effect. The points he raised were mainly a psychological ploy to raise support from overseas Khmer People, and to raise funds for his committee.
Analysts believe that Mr. Sean Pengse and CBC members should come to Cambodia and cooperate with the government, just like Kem Sokha and other activists do.
In the past few weeks, [Former] King Norodom Sihanouk had recognized his eternal support for the leadership of prime minister Hun Sen, Chea Sim and Heng Samrin.
