Rainstorm kills 5 in Cambodia

(Kyodo) _ A rainstorm killed at least five people and destroyed 67 houses in Cambodia's central province of Kompong Thom, a local official said Tuesday.

Ou Bosaphoan, deputy director of the province's agriculture office, told Kyodo News that the rainstorm hit the province's two districts of Stung Sen and Kompong Svay on Monday afternoon.

Acid truck crash leaves six dead

A TRUCK carrying a hundred containers of acid ploughed into a roadside market in north-western Cambodia, splashing the hazardous substance on to passers-by and killing six people, including a four -year-old girl, police said today. Eleven others were injured by the crash, which occurred on Saturday.

The truck was travelling at high speed, trying to overtake another vehicle when one of its tyres blew out.

What a tragedy and a waste of human lives. In Asia esp in our country we have never taken any serious step to prevent this sort of accident and disaster happening.
