Prince Ranariddh Appoints Four Party Deputy Secretaries General To Foil Nhiek Bun Chhay's Conspiracy

The Sralanh Khmer newspaper on 24 April carries a report by Sachak saying Prince Norodom Ranariddh, leader of the FUNCINPEC [National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful, and Cooperative Cambodia] Party, "has appointed four party deputy secretaries general to foil the conspiracy plotted by Nhiek Bun Chhay." Nhiek Bun Chhay has attempted to "round up all factions of FUNCINPEC members so as to auction them to Hun Sen of the Cambodian People's Party [CPP]." Some of the four party deputy secretaries general "used to oppose Nhiek Bun Chhay during the resistance struggle along the border in the 1980s."

A FUNCINPEC official disclosed that, the report adds, the four deputy secretaries general included "Mam Bun-neang, Tea Chamrat, Sun Chanthol, and Chhim Siek Leng" and that Prince Ranariddh signed the letter of appointment in Paris on 19 April 2006, "without consulting with Nhiek Bun Chhay."

The report also says that an elder FUNCINPEC member said that of the four party deputy secretaries general, "only Mam Bun-neang was the new one;" the other three had already been appointed to the positions many times. He added that the motive of the appointment by the prince was to "thwart Nhiek Bun Chhay's perfidious trick, preventing him from auctioning FUNCINPEC to Hun Sen," despite his stage-managed efforts to maintain telephone contact with the prince.

The reason Prince Ranariddh has appointed Mam Bun-neang as a party deputy secretary general, the report says, is, although the prince is aware that he is inept, to "prevent him from divulging the issue concerning the sale of the FUNCINPEC headquarters."

As for the appointment of Tea Chamrat, it is because the latter has been "opposed to Nhiek Bun Chhay" since they were at the border. Tea Chamrat will be the prince's chief of staff to "contain Nhiek Bun Chhay if the latter has vile ideas of such as auctioning FUNCINPEC to Hun Sen." Tea Chamrat himself needs to "curry favor with the prince," because he used to "betray FUNCINPEC by selling out to Hun Sen" following the bloody military coup in July 1997.

For Public Works Minister Sun Chan-thol, he is a son-in-law of Khaou Chuly, an in-law of CPP Chairman Chea Sim and a close associate of [Deputy Prime Minister] Sok An, the great master of Hun Sen. In the past, every single FUNCINPEC secret leaked to Hun Sen and Sok An. It was suspected that Sun Chanthol was the one who provided reports on everything.
As for Chhim Siek Leng, although he is disabled and incapable of holding high positions, he is completely loyal to the monarchy.

A group of senior FUNCINPEC members mentioned that, the report adds, it was "strange" Prince Ranariddh appointed the four party deputy secretaries general. In other words, he appointed only those "close" to him in order to prevent Nhiek Bun Chhay from auctioning FUNCINPEC to Hun Sen.

Nhiek Bun Chhay told local reporters that, the report says, the appointment of the four party deputy secretaries general on 19 April was the prince's "own decision."

FUNCINPEC officials disclosed that, the report adds, Nhiek Bun Chhay was "unhappy" with Prince Ranariddh making the appointment "without consulting him." They added that the prince would lose his grip on the FUNCINPEC leadership if he continued to make appointments or transfers at will and refused to boot [sacked police chief] Sau Rani, Mam Bun-neang, and Tea Chamrat.

The report says Prince Norodom Sirivudh's supporters mentioned that Nhiek Bun Chhay had "frequently made overseas call" to Prince Ranariddh over the past few days. Anyway, it was just a stage-managed show, because Nhiek Bun Chhay gave ear to Hun Sen more than to Prince Ranariddh, they added. Besides, the reason Nhiek Bun Chhay pretended to keep constant contact with Prince Ranariddh was because he wanted to mislead all factions of FUNCINPEC members into believing that he did "not sell Samdech Krom Preah [Ranariddh] down the river," the Sralanh Khmer report concludes.

Ranariddh is confused and disoriented....his memory is completly 100% used. He can't remember or recall anything but his new wife and his bank account. He has been working so hard and he needs to take a break in France.

Might as well for Bun Chhay to declare Democrats Partyleaning toward Republic to get out of royalty subjugation. Bet new members will be in line to join him.
FUNC is a losing cause and royalty in leadership is a disgrace.
