On Tuesday, Princess Vacheara from the Funcinpec party said, through a letter, that she is resigning from some other positions within the Funcinpec party.
The written letter indicated her resignation from the chairwoman position for the working group of Phnom Penh, an important position responsible for the organization of the electoral campaign for the upcoming commune election, as well as the 2008 legislative election.
The resignation came at a time when active party members and senior officials of the royalist party are worried about the uncertain future of Funcinpec which had seen a number of its government positions removed in the last few weeks.
Princess Vacheara said that even though she indicated in the letter that she does not have the ability to function as the chairwoman of the working group, the explanation in the letter was only an excuse.
Princess Vacheara said: “I am resigning from the position of chairwoman for the Phnom Penh working group for now … this is not because I am incompetent or don’t have the ability, but I want to resign for a while.”
The resignation of the princess came after the appeal made by the Funcinpec youth movement, last week, calling for the unification in order to strengthen the royalist party which is losing popularity at a very fast rate.
