Ranariddh Said Backing Idea of Putting Cambodian Royal Family Out of Politics

Prince Ranariddh to give up politics (2)
According to pro-royalist Cambodian language newspapers The Voice of Khmer Youth in its edition of 4 April 2006, Funcinpec president prince Norodom Ranariddh is considering giving up politics. The prince, who is currently in France and has indefinitely postponed his return to Cambodia, might officially abandon all political positions and ambitions in the coming weeks. He might reluctantly quit politics but has actually no choice given the pressure from the ruling CPP and from his own party, which he has disastrously led since 1993 (see KI, 2 April 2006: "Prince Ranariddh to be further sidelined"). - Khmer Intelligence

Samdech Krom Preah May Agree With Royal Family Members Staying Out of Politics

By Tum Somalai
Voice of Khmer Youth

The pro-FUNCINPEC [National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful, and Cooperative Cambodia] Party newspaper Phnom Penh Samleng Yuveakchon Khmer in Cambodian on 4 April carries a report by Tum Somalai saying, "According to members of the royal family, Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, former chairman of the National Assembly and leader of the FUNCINPEC Party, has agreed with the initiative of elevating the royal family members above political parties."

Some royal family members, the report adds, told Samleng Yuveakchon Khmer on 3 April that Prince Ranariddh, currently in France, had told some of his family members he "backed the position of putting the royal family out of politics that some royals have already supported." However, the prince has "not yet officially announced his decision" that one needs to wait and see following his return to Cambodia after the celebration of the Cambodian New Year [between 13 and 15 April].

The report also says a member of the royal family quoted Prince Ranariddh as saying last weekend that, "If Prime Minister Hun Sen as well as national institutions had the good intention toward the members of the royal family, he would lend his support right away."

The report further says that this week, many royal family members pointed out that it is an "opportune opportunity for the Cambodian royal family members pull themselves out of political involvement, leaving the commoners to compete among themselves."

Some royal family members told Samleng Yuveakchon Khmer this week that the "news media, politicians, and civil society groups wanted to see the members of the royal family held in the highest regard by various circles and politicians" and that they welcomed this excellent idea. However, they added, the royal family members have "not yet met to discuss the aforesaid issue," but it is believed that this question will be "raised at an appropriate time in the near future."

Some members of the royal family mentioned that, the report says, the Royal Family Council [krom proeksa reach-vong-sa-nu-vong] members "used to mull over the future of royal family members not getting involved in politics as well, but the opportunities, it seemed, did not present themselves. It was also because they were considerate toward each other and afraid that there would be no support from the political parties in Cambodia."

Recently opposition leader Sam Rainsy said he wished to see the members of the royal family "stay out of politics" at an appropriate time, the report adds. However, he "refused to endorse the creation of legislation to forbid them to play politics lest it might be discrimination and against the Constitution, which states that every Cambodian citizen shall be equal before the law." Sam Rainsy added that he wished to see the royal family members "wake up themselves rather than being forced out of politics."

The report also says last week, Cambodian Center for Human Rights President Kem Sokha, who is now seen to be close to the government, said he "endorsed the idea of having the members of the royal family stay out of politician arena, protected by law, and honored properly."

As for the present ruling Cambodian People's Party, the report further says, it has "not yet made any remarks" on the recently raised idea of elevating the royal family by putting it out of politics.

Some royal family members said that, the report says, they wished to see the "establishment of a law by which the members of the royal family are treated rationally and allowed to live a decorous life." They added that they "no longer wanted to get involved in politics, because playing politics should be willing to accept criticism from other politicians." They also said former King Norodom Sihanouk, too, "used to think over this issue, but he did not make it public." So, now is the good opportunity that concerted efforts should be exerted to "create a law to pay honor to the royal family," they concluded.

Is sounding liked lot of Cambodians are Confussing about wath is politic?

Politic is away of life for human to live as groups, societies,
countries, union and so on. Since politic is a way of life, so every living human soul should have the right to do Politic, so he or she can live as a full resonsible human.

People who have rights to vote in a setting organization should have the right to do politic in it.

A person can choose not to do politic but should not be presured or not alow by other even from parents or spouse.

Politic is not dirty, bad people are dirty and they are dirty politicians. There are good politicians that make human race develope and prosper.

Now let stop the princes, tommorow stop the teacher, next stop the poor later stop every body but a dictator and friends?

Every one should encourage to come to vote that mean to come to joint politic. To do good and hornest politic, to build a good society for human race.

Some who say "politic is for politicians you ordinary people should stay away" is wrong! any body can do politic and be called Politician.

Retired person can not do politic beacause he or she too old is wrong!exept he or she choose to.

Every body who allow to vote should come out to vote and do politic. Take charge of your own life don't let the crooked one do it for you.

Whent the society destroy we all sofer not only the so call politicians who are running us.

If you are not death and able please come out and do good politic! to help yourself, family, frinds, society, country, and the world. Don't let smart mouths tell you warh not to do.

Sory for my spelling and gramar.
