Soben Huon, a contestant for Miss USA 2006 who did not forget her Cambodian origin

Soben Huon, Miss Utah, is currently a contestant for Miss USA. We wish her Good Luck!

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
I went off-roading on one of the most dangerous mountains in Utah. Since the hills were so steep, the car nearly toppled over.

Please list any honors/awards you have received in the past 2 years?
  • Cambodian Classical Ballet - Principal Dancer.
  • Nordstrom - Largest Increase in Opened Accounts Award.
  • Asian-American Community Award.
  • First place in Speech and Debate competition advocating the Kyoto Protocol in International Law.
  • Orchestra Student Award (two consecutive years).
  • Dean’s list (4 semesters).
Are you currently employed? If so, what is your current occupation?
Yes. At Nordstrom in the Accessories and Handbags Department.

What are your strongest talents?
I have the ability to adapt to different environments and situations very easily, therefore preparing me to become Miss USA!

Name one personal accomplishment (in addition to being a State Titleholder) that makes you especially proud.
My dedication and hard work in school paid off as I read my university acceptance letter. I knew I was about to embark upon the most independent journey of my life, which is currently leading me to my American dream.

List your hobbies and favorite activities.
  • Cambodian Classical Ballet.
  • Playing Aaron Copeland on the violin.
  • Teaching myself to play the piano.
  • Myspace.com addict.
  • Cooking my favorite Cambodian entrees.
  • Bargain shopping to emulate Jackie O’s and Audrey Hepburn’s styles.
  • Participating with my local Toastmasters Organization.
What is the most important thing you want the judges to know about you?
I want the judges to know that I truly believe in hard work as a means to fulfilling “The American Dream.”

Never seen any Cambodian female entered into that contest previously, so it is nothing more than being proud of you, Soben, and wishing you all the best and make Cambodia to be well known. Again, good luck.

She is cambodian american, not just " cambodian "..otherwise she wouldn't win....like so many real beautiful cambodians they nevr have the dream like her...but this situations, it take lots of gut in order to do that with american support, like in 70 - 75's...without american...the hell will know!!
