Student’s Movement for Democracy
Statement
Statement
On the morning of April 23, 2006, at 11:05 AM, five members of the working group of the Students’ Movement for Democracy (SMD) visited the Cambodian-Vietnamese border in Phum Daung village, Daung commune, Romeas Hek district, Svay Rieng province. As soon as the SMD working group arrived, the border authorities prevented the SMD working group from visiting people living in a row of five houses and also prevented the group from observing the border line. The SMD working group was threatened with seizure of their camera, voice recorder, and notebook if it takes pictures and notes on any information, the authorities also warned the people not to give interviews or provide any information related to border issues.
This action shows that the Supplemental border treaty concluded between the Cambodian and the Vietnamese governments still remain shrouded in mystery, and this treaty is only a pretext to calm down the public reaction on border issue which was then a hot topic issue. In reality, the issue of border encroachment still remains active, and everything remains as it was before the treaty.
The Students’ Movement for Democracy is condemning the action taken by the border authorities in restricting the freedom of the people – an act contrary to the principle of a democracy – and we are calling the government to publicly allow all people to follow up on the border marking because Cambodia is not the sole private property of the government. Therefore, Khmer people should have the right and the duty on the self determination of their country.

Next time whenever you guys go down there don't show them all the equiptments. Hide them. Use hidden cameras like the one on TV.
yes there are many types of small hidden recording devices that can be used. the only problem is that not many people may have access to such high tech equipment.
