Takeo-An Giang Highway open to traffic - more illegal Vietnamese immigrants to be expected??

Cambodia’s National Highway No. 2 opens to traffic

Phnom Penh, April 26 (VNA) - Cambodia’s National Highway No. 2, which links Takeo province of Cambodia to An Giang province of Viet Nam, opened to traffic on April 26.

Prominent at the inauguration ceremony were Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Communication and Transport Ngo Thinh Duc and other Vietnamese and Japanese diplomats.

The National Highway No. 2 upgrade project had been operated by the Vietnamese Transport and Communication Ministry-affiliated Construction Corporation No. 1 (Cienco 1) since March 2005 under supervision of an international joint venture, comprised of the Asian Engineering Consultants Corp. Ltd. (AEC) of Thailand, Oriental Consultants of Japan and GBE of Cambodia.

The upgrade of the 51.6 km two-lane highway cost 13.19 million USD, with 12.5 million USD coming from the Japanese Government’s financial assistance.-Enditem
