Land speculators who illegally claim ownership of Kob Srov lake in northern Phnom Penh have been given until next Thursday to remove their demarcation posts and spray-painted telephone numbers from a public wall, Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chuktema said Thursday. The deadline was issued after Russei Keo district Governor Khlaing Huot led a force of 20 police and military police officers to the lake to begin the removal process Thursday. "The removal must be done. But we have given them a deadline to remove by themselves. If they refuse to remove we will remove for them," Kep Chuktema said. Speculators must also remove graffiti from the Kob Srov dike wall or they will be forced to pay the cost to the municipality of officials doing it, he said. Khlaing Huot said he found 16 mobile numbers sprayed on a 5-km stretch of the dike wall in his district. Dangkao district Governor Krouch Phan said that speculators in his section of the lake also have a deadline of Thursday to comply with the orders.
