The statue of Lokta Dambang Daek, in front of which Khmer Rouge tribunal witnesses will have to swear the truth, was officially inaugurated at the tribunal premises in Kandal province on Friday morning. Musicians played traditional music and Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia officials lit incense and placed fruit, cigarettes and boiled chickens at the foot of the statute, which is known in English as Grandfather With the Iron Stall According to Cambodian legal regulations, witnesses but not suspects will be required to swear to tell the truth before the statue before testimony is given, ECCC Administration Director Sean Visoth told reporters. "All courts in the provinces and municipalities have the swearing in order to have the truth spoken [during] the trial proceedings," he said. "This is done according to the Cambodian tradition," he added.
