The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia Wednesday is assessing the jurists list for the Khmer Rouge tribunal, alleges an Embassy official.
This procedure was done after there were some suspiscions about the tribunal might be politically inclined, international criminal code violations, and not enough qualifications for the sitting judges and prosecutors.
U.S. Embassy spokesman Jeff Daigle told VOA that the Embassy is assessing the possible political motivation and the jurists qualifications, and that he does not have any conditions to talk about. He says that the Embassy can accept or refuse the list, and will comment on the list later, but that the Embassy is observing all the jurists in the list, and their abilites to judge.
The United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) representative in Cambodia Douglas Gardner declines to comment.
