Eric John, deputy assistant secretary of state for the US State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, has cancelled his trip to Cambodia this week, an embassy official said. Embassy spokesman Jeff Daigle said the visit was cancelled at the last minute because John was called away to visit East Timor. John was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen and other officials and NGOs between Sunday and Tuesday, according to a press release. The visit was not planned for any specific reason other than consultation and building local contacts, Daigle said, adding that the visit had not been rescheduled.
