Gov’t official arrested for involvement in WB funds corruption

A government official from the Ministry of Rural Development was arrested based on a warrant issued by the court. He was accused of involvement in the corruption to embezzle World Bank funds provided to the government ministries for use.

Muor Kim San, director of the department of development of provincial and rural infrastructure, was accused of corruption with the embezzlement of funds amounting to US $840,000.

This is the first arrest made on a government official involved in the corruption accusation leveled by the World Bank regarding the irregular spending of funds by five ministries which received aid from the Bank.

Chiv Keng, the director of the Phnom Penh court, told RFA that the Ministry of Rural Development official was arrested on 19 July.
