Liquor tycoon Charoen Siriwadhanabhakdi has teamed up with a Cambodian millionaire to invest in a US$50million sugar (Bt1.9 billion) cane plantation and sugar production facility in Koh Kong, Cambodia.

Cambodia Daily reported Tuesday that Charoen would hold a 49-percent stake in the project, with the transaction to be completed in December 2008.

The newspaper said the factory - part of the expansion of Charoen's alcohol business - would be the first of its kind in Cambodia.

This is one positive step being taken by Cambodia and Thailand. Cambodia is a new territory of businesses development. Vietnam has seen this opportunity and has invest tremondously in Cambodia and Thailand must see it the same way. This should be a competition for business contracts. It will be good for Cambodia, Thailand, and as well as Vietnam. At the same time, Thailand and Vietnam must not see Cambodia must not see as " the new discovered world" for business and environmental exploitation just because they are more economically superior.
