At least three political parties have met on Sunday to plan on uniting to form a new political party which will include the participation of Prince Sisowath Thomico.

Prince Thomico talked to RFA today to inform about the name of the three political parties who came to the meeting, they are: the Khmer Front Party, the Khmer Unity Party, and the People Power Party. However, the Prince did not yet reveal the name of the new party which will be formed.

Prince Thomico said: “Today, the meeting was about the party by-law, the approval of the by-law, the internal regulations, the headquarter and such.”

The Prince refused to the reveal the name of this new political party claiming that he cannot betray his members.

Answering to question about the people or political parties joining him, Prince Thomico said: “Up to now, the core consists of three political parties: the Khmer Front Party, the Khmer Unity Party, and the People Power Party belonging to Mr. Kan Vireak. As for H.E. Pen Sovann and Mr. Khem Veasna, they informed me that they support my standing, but they asked that I move forward first, they will join me later.”

Cambodia, a country with 13 million inhabitants, has a noticeably large number of political parties.

During the 2003 legislative election, 23 political parties have participated, however, only the three large political parties were successful: they are the CPP, Funcinpec, and the SRP.
