Wednesday August 16, 2006

(Kyodo) - A fisherman in his 40s has died in flooding due to heavy rains in Cambodia over the past few days, a government official said Wednesday.

Nhim Vanda, deputy chairman of National Disaster Management Committee, told Kyodo News that the heavy rains, caused by storms originating in China, have hit three provinces and a city along the country's coastal areas.

The man, whose name has not been released, died Tuesday in Kampot Province, 143 kilometers south of Phnom Penh.

The flooding has cut a national highway linking the capital to the coastal beach of Sihanoukville, stranding hundreds of cars and trucks, he said.

He added that a 1.5-km stretch of the highway is under 2 meters of water.

No other casualties have been reported.

Like I was saying, you Cambodian are cutting the forest. This is what happen to ignorants. Cambodia will turn into desert and into an oven when the trees are gone.
