Sa Kaew - Soldiers arrested five Muslims from Cambodia who admitted they were heading to work in Pattani.

The five were arrested together with 17 other Cambodians while allegedly crossing the border from Poi Pet into Sa Kaew's Aranyaprathet district at 5 am Monday.

They were spotted crossing a canal into Thailand by patrolling soldiers.

The 22 illegal immigrants were being detained for further interrogation before deportation.

Col Chaiyachaiyan Sothornchai, commander of the 12th Taskforce, said the five Muslims admitted they were planning to head to Pattani as they were invited by Muslims to work in the southern border province.

The five said they did not know the details of their planned work in Pattani.
