(Kyodo) - After five months in self-exile, Prince Norodom Ranariddh returned to Cambodia on Thursday with a pledge to restore his political party and resolve differences with Prime Minister Hun Sen.
On arrival at Siem Reap, the prince said he would seek to strengthen his party ahead of next year's communal vote and the 2008 elections.
The prince left Cambodia in March after quitting as chairman of the legislature following a rift with Hun Sen.
Hun Sen has fired several government officials from the prince's FUNCINPEC party, a junior coalition partner with Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party after the 1998 general election.
Tuesday, Hun Sen warned he would fire any government official from FUNCINPEC who turned up to greet the prince's return because the country is facing flooding in several provinces.
And apparently, few government officials from FUNCINPEC turned up in Siem Reap.
Shortly after arrival, the prince told reporters he will try to resolve differences with the prime minister.
