Thailand's coup is an internal matter: Cambodian newspaper

September 21, 2006

The bloodless coup in Bangkok was an internal matter for the Thai government and the military takeover would not cause instability in Cambodia, the Cambodian Daily on Thursday quoted government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith as saying.

"We are not issuing a travel warning to Cambodians because the situation seems calm, but we are monitoring it very closely," he said.

"The situation in Cambodia is quite stable," he said, adding that it was up to the Thai government to resolve the situation peacefully.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Tea Banh told reporters that the Cambodian Military remained united behind the government.

"There will never be such a coup in Cambodia because we do not have such deep social rifts as in Thailand," he added.

On Wednesday in Thailand, Cambodia's close neighbor, the armed forces seized power without firing a shot, dismissed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's government.

For disrepecting Thai monarchy and this is what Mr. Thaksin Sinawatra get! The Thai King don't want to go down the same road as Cambodian monarchy!

What about Mr. HUN SEN who had been disrespecting Cambodian monarchy for the longest time. Mr. HUN SEN even force the King to sign illegal border agreement with the Vietcong and threaten to abolish Cambodian monarchy for not following him. He even go as far as suggesting that he create Cambodian monarchy and he even give him a title as King too! Not bad! I am sure his time will come too!
