You Hockry, 2nd vice-president of the National Assembly, who in the past expressed his opposition to the result of Funcinpec extraordinary congress, will face losing his position at the National Assembly on Monday, following a request made by the Funcinpec party. The party also asked to replace You Hocky by Hong Sun Huot.
Cheam Yeap, CPP MP and member of the permanent committee of the National Assembly, told RFA that: “According to the agenda, we will vote to select the 2nd vice-president of the National Assembly because Funcinpec asked to replace H.E. You Hockry by H.E. Hong Sun Huot.”
Nouv Sovathero, spokesman of the Funcinpec party led by Keo Puth Rasmy, the new party president, explained about the replacement of You Hcokry: “The first point [of the removal] is based on the letter dated 20 Oct written by H.E. You Hockry following the end of the [Funcinpec] extraordinary congress. The second point is based on the outcome of the meeting between H.E. Nhiek Bun Chhay and H.E. You Hckry. Based on the two points above, Funcinpec issued a letter dated 15 Nov sent to Samdech Heng Samrin, president of the National Assembly, requesting the change of the 2nd vice-president. As for H.E. You Hockry, after ending his position as 2nd vice-president, he will still remain as Funcinpec MP from Kompong Cham as before.”
Another source indicated that besides the 2 points raised in the request letter sent by Funcinpec to remove You Hockry, the intent is to strengthen and preserve the cooperation between Funcinpec and CPP under the present condition.
You Hockry personally told RFA this Sunday that he has no regret, nor fear. He is planning to leave the country for a long vacation: “I have no reaction, if they want to remove me legally, let them … I will not participate [in the vote], I will be out [of the country] … I have not made up my mind [to join Prince Ranariddh].”
Nouv Sovathero, Funcinpec spokesman, added that the party had sent an official request to Samdech Chea Sim, Senate president, to request the removal of Prince Chakrapong who is currently a senator. The prince did not recognize the result of Funcinpec extraordinary congress held last 18 Oct.
Funcinpec led by Keo Puth Rasmy, the new party president, had decided to kick out of the party 4 important officials. The 4 include: Serei Kosal, Sao Rany, Ok Socheat, and Mam Bun Neang, they are loyal to Prince Norodom Ranariddh. Currently, the 4 have joined Prince Ranariddh’s new party.
