(Kyodo) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Tuesday he wants to stay in power until he turns 90, almost another four decades.
"If I am still alive, I will continue to stand as a candidate (for prime minister) until I turn 90," Hun Sen said at a ceremony to inaugurate a new building of the rice research institute in the suburbs of Phnom Penh.
He said that as long as people keep voting for him, he will continue as prime minister.
His speech was broadcast by state-run television and radio.
Hun Sen, 54, has run the country for 21 years since 1985. In Cambodia, there is no limit to the prime minister's term.
Opposition leader Sam Rainsy criticized Hun Sen for the remarks, saying, "Any countries worldwide which are under the same rulers for several decades or a long time fall into a dictatorship and poverty."
"I would like to appeal (to Hun Sen) not to look down on 14 million Cambodians. He should give a chance to younger generations. It is sure that they are more qualified," Sam Rainsy said, adding that a man at age 90 "is too old and too weak to rule the country."
Hun Sen has warned that he would use all possible means, including military force, to block any attempts to topple him by means other than an election.

You should consider to step down with honor as herro or with life sentence of killing people in K-5 program, march 1997, July 1997, October 1998, maybe Chea Vichea and Om Radsady and other editors of newspapers as well as corruption.
