Kem Sokha to form new party this year (2)
At several meetings in the USA and Canada just a few days ago, Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) president Kem Sokha confirmed that he will form a new political party this year. Those who will join him include Son Soubert (currently a member of the Constitutional Council representing the King), Lao Mong Hay (a foreign-based human rights activist and an assistant to SRP parliamentarian Son Chhay) and Mam Sonando (the owner of Beehive Radio station that rebroadcasts VOA and RFA programs in Cambodia ). Kem Sokha will terminate his contract with CCHR next July but will have to face several corruption and embezzlement lawsuits filed against him by former colleagues who accuse him of diverting funds provided by the USA and European countries. Kem Sokha has allegedly diverted between $300,000 and $400,000 from foreign aid for his own benefit since the creation of CCHR in 2003 and has refused to answer any questions from colleagues and journalists (see KI, 25 November 2006: "Court will summon Kem Sokha again").
Ranariddh to make a net profit of $2.4 million following lawsuits (2)
In order to appease Funcinpec leaders who accuse him of corruption and breach of trust, former Funcinpec president prince Norodom Ranariddh has proposed the following deal to his opponents: In exchange for Funcinpec leaders to withdraw their lawsuit against him, he is prepared to give them the large piece of land he had bought on the outskirts of Phnom Penh to purportedly erect the party's new headquarters. Ranariddh had previously sold Funcinpec's current headquarters (next to the French embassy) for $3.6 million and allegedly pocketed the proceeds. He reportedly used a portion of the proceeds, exactly $1.2 million, to buy under his own name but allegedly for the use of the party, the 8-hectare piece of land in the outer suburbs. Earlier this week, Ranariddh's lawyers brought the corresponding land title to the Court with the "permission" to the Court to "give" the land to the "legitimate owners of the Funcinpec party". In the worst scenario, Ranariddh will make a net profit of $2.4 million (see KI, 25 November 2006 : "Ranariddh entangled in corruption scandals").
Funcinpec and NRP "sharing" same candidates (2)
According to the National Election Committee (NEC), the two rival royalist parties, Funcinpec and Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP), have fielded candidates in approximately the same number of constituencies for the forthcoming commune council election scheduled for 1 April 2007 . Actually, in most of the constituencies where Funcinpec and NRP are fighting against each other (approximately 1,400 communes out of 1,621), there are numerous royalist activists who stand as candidates for the two parties at the same time. They have not made a definitive choice yet with regard to their allegiance. The NEC will face difficulties in deciding which candidate lists to validate in the next few days.

It is a shame that anti-CPP forces can not group themselves together.
It seems either there is too much of the ego trip, or the lack of a real appreciation for the nuts and bolts of the proportional voting system.
Or do they really want to beat the CPP?
SiS
CPP must be in cloud 10 to see the sure loosers FUNCINPEC and RANARITH go at each others throat. Well go on fighting monarchists who care ?. After all you're both the sore loosers anyway .The longer you fight, the better the cpp is...
Kem Sokha should share his strength with Rainsy. I won't support Kem Sokha. If he comes to my state I will teach him a lesson.
Why not ,
The Khmer-Democrats group work together ?
Why and Why we're all want to be the Preah Bat Thormeuk ?
It's time for All to Reunite and Work together to beat Youn-Hanoi & CPP !

Now a new group of so-called Khmer Nationalists or Democrats I shall say, want to create a political party. How many parties do they want to create when you have only 14 million people and most of them are not legal to vote. Another word, they want to pull down the CPP from power, but they are dividing voters within their own groups. I don't think that is a smart move for all democrats. The CPP is bonding like crazy glue. Keep up good work, CPP.
Eh 9:40pm,
I think Cambodia should have had only the most 3 parties:
Communist party (CPP), Opposition Party (SRP), and an Independent Party to watch these two parties.
Yes the crazy glue you said is that you speak propaganda for Vietnamese. More than 4 million are from Vietnam or so called the identity theft helped by a Vietnamese man Nguyen Van Son aka Hok Langdy. S h elied he was born in Cambodia, yeahhh. b/c all the records were destroyed so more lies coming.
KEM SOKHA should clear up himself first of all allegations made against him before deciding to form his own political party. Failure to do so,will resulted , or will fall into one popular khmer's saying;<< A KDOR NA KO DAUCH A KDOR NA DES >>...CORRUPT TO THE BONES...
I can understand why Kem Sokha plans to have his own party.
1) He will run out of job soon.
2) He has hard times to talk to Rainsy. he had tried to unit with Rainsy so many times since the coup but Rainsy turned him down (only people close to Rainsy know this).
3) He knows so well how Rainsy and his wife treat people who work closely under them.
4) Now he has no choice but to form a party.
I do not support Mr. Kem for this but I cannot blame him either.
I had a dream that Sam Rainsy's party + Kem Sokha's party = 50+1 . I pray to god for my dream to come true.
Sam Rainsy's family is having relationship with Sok Ann's family. They have family connection (their niece and nephew got married). What a shameful thing for Sis Rainsy to do? And about Mr. Kem Sokha's corruption case, I think you guys should ask USAID. They have said many times that they already checked and found nothing to prove that Mr. Kem Sokha has done any corruption. And to someone who thinks that he is going to run out of job, you're wrong. Only people who are close to Mr. Kem Sokha know how smart this guy is. He has many choices because he is smart enough to figure out his future and his country's future (I bet better than Sis Rainsy who is taking money from Ket Meng--a CCP guy--every month). To the person who said Mr. Kem Sokha should clear up himself, I would like to tell you that he doesn't have to clear up himself because the donor has already cleared up everything for him. I and other Cambodians would not feel shameful if a Cambodian like you could use better language and stop using the language you used (that language is only for gangsters... well, some gangsters use better language than you do).
And to the owner of KI, I know that you're Rainsy's relative. So, I wouldn't blame you for trying so hard to make Mr. Kem Sokha look bad because you know that Rainsy, your brother-in-law, is selling himself to CCP. Therefore, you have to make other people worse than your brother-in-law. I understand that.
Hi anon. 7:24AM,
I am a fan of Cambodia for Democracy. Cambodia has been suffered for too long and it is time for Cambodian people to put aside their personal fight but to unite for the sake of the Nation. Did Rainsy work for Yuan Hanoi? No.
Did Hun Sen work for Yuan Hanoi? Yes. Did Kem Sokha work for Yuan Hanoi? No. Can Rainsy and Kem Sopha get along? NO. But can they work together for the sake of Cambodia under this such a tragedy situation? I think Yes.
BUT if these two don't then the winner will go to Yuan and Hun Sen, the puppet.
I refuse to support Kem Sokha and Sam Rainsy if these two DO NOT work together for the sake of their Nation.
If thing goes wrong again, I will condemn these two for dragging Cambodia to further sufferings.
I strongly believe that Cambodian people deserve better.
