(SGT-HCMC) HCMC Party chief Le Thanh Hai and Mayor of Phnom Penh City Kep Chuk Tema met together yesterday to go into details of cooperation projects between the two cities to evaluate their progress and discuss ways to further step up the program.

Key projects under the spotlight at yesterday’s meeting included the Cho Ray-Phnompenh Hospital, a project to supply fertilizer to Cambodian farmers, a rubber plantation development projects, and some other schemes in tourism and education.

The hospital project, according to Cho Ray Hospital’s director Truong Van Viet, has been dragging due to administrative formalities including immigration regulations for doctors.

“It needs at least two more years for the hospital to come into operation,” Viet briefed the meeting.

In agriculture, Phnom Penh hopes that Binh Dien Fertilizer Company will supply sufficient fertilizer to Cambodian farmers and help disseminate experiences on intensive farming for Cambodia. Development of rubber farms in Cambodia also should be bolstered to soon realize the goal of planting 40,000 hectares of rubber trees there.

Regarding tourism, the Cambodian side asked city companies to build hotels of three-star standards and higher in Cambodia, beside travel cooperation under the form of cross-country caravan traveling that is being implemented.

An official who asked not to be named told the Daily that Tema and HCMC Chairman Le Hoang Quan will meet in the City Hall tomorrow, where the two sides will likely sign several more cooperation agreements.
