A hand grenade exploded at the house of the Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP) candidate No. 1 for the commune election, in Romlech commune, Bakan district, Pursat province. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon and caused the death of the candidate’s 15-year-old daughter. Local news media indicated that the explosion occurred near the bed of NRP candidate Nhanh Nheal. It was the bed on which the candidate uses to sleep, however the candidate was out of his house on that day, and his daughter decided to sleep on her father’s bed when the explosion occurred. The explosion severed her arms and legs and tore apart her belly. She died on the spot. Ok Socheat, NRP official, said that the grenade was a trap left there with the intention to kill the NRP candidate, therefore, he considers this case to be a political attempt on the life of the NRP candidate. However, the police claimed that the grenade was not a booby trap, it was in fact an explosion caused by the children playing with it. The police pointed out the safety lever was found inside the house.
