Hun Sen warns officials against illegal land grabbing
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Monday senior government officials involved in illegal land grabbing had better withdraw themselves from such cases immediately, otherwise they will be fired.
"I have been given the power from the central steering committee in the general assembly of my party CPP (the Cambodian People's Party), and I also need to play an important role as coordinator for taking actions against the illegal land grabbers, who are top government officials from CPP," he told a national forum on the conservation of the Tonle Sap Lake, which was attended by diplomat corps and high-ranking government officials.
If they do not withdraw from such land disputes, they will be fired from the government and expelled from the party, he said.
"Their refusal will not provide any benefit for CPP and our people, because they don't listen to us, they grab land to serve their own benefits and they ruin CPP's reputation," he said.
They must withdraw as this is their last chance given by the party, said Hun Sen, adding that "I don't want to see blood to flow."
A top government official from CPP has informed him about his withdrawal from a land dispute in Koh Sla area in Kandal province, while a three-star general at the Ministry of National Defense will be demoted this week because he refused to quit hectares of land he had grabbed illegally, he said.
Hun Sen also appealed for the co-ruling Funcinpec Party and all local authorities to take similar actions against illegal land grabbers within their territories.
Land disputes have been frequent across Cambodia in recent years, resulting in hundreds of death and injury, according to official reports.

Arh Hun Sen turned his other blind eye for land grabbing for so long. Now he just fix his bad eye because of election nearby. Why take so long for stupid/uneducated like him to think about abusing Cambodia people.
Time to demote him also to peasant in Kompong Cham.
Time to topple CPP government.
Hah haha.. Hun Sen is only acting, my friend. He is only making noise because he needs those guys to protect his power. Hun Sen would have not dared to jail any of them, because they are his right hands, they are working together.
It is only a SHOW not real.
