Statement on the Death of Kampuchea Krom Monk Eang Sok Thoeun
Most of the politically-motivated killings in Cambodia in the past have not been properly investigated by the authorities of the Royal Government, nor have public reports of findings been released.
There is good reason to question whether the death of Kampuchea Krom monk Eang Sok Thoeun was in fact a suicide, as claimed in a local newspaper. We believe that he was killed by multiple cuts to the neck, an unlikely suicide method. He was a respected monk, having joined the monk-hood at a young age. He participated in protests against Vietnamese authorities when they defrocked the Khmer Krom monks, including the February 27 protest on the occasion of the visit of the delegation led by Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.
We appeal to the Royal Government to fully investigate the cause of the death of Eang Sok Thoeun, coming so shortly after his participation in the protest over the defrocking of Kampuchea Krom monks and the protest in Phnom Penh.
Furthermore, we ask the government to provide adequate protection to all Kampuchea Krom monks, especially those who participated in the February 27 Phnom Penh protest, to prevent further atrocities.
Unless security and protection are properly provided, the credit of the Royal Government will be damaged, and there will be increased likelihood of social unrest.

I have no optimistic at all that Hun Sen government can deal with this problem. It is far beyond Hun Sen to control it because eventhough Hun Sen himself security is guarding by the same thug.
