Cartoonist Sacrava's Self Portrait, Hope and Vision

When I was young I knew that I could draw for fun , after training for 10 years in Fine Arts School.... In my age now,55 yrs old by coming of next month, May, I knew I have a mission to serve Cambodia & its people...after I realized that Lord Buddha & the Universe had spared my life from the holocaust of the killing field in Cambodia.

When we all are ready.....Cambodia & its People will be freed again for sure ! One for All & All for One !

......Sometime in the near future, I would sit under a Palm Tree, drinking its juice from the bamboo's trunk....and draw Angkorwat and all of Khmer Temples that were built everywhere in Dendey Sovannaphum ! This is my last dream.

In the next decent Khmer-Government.....I'll be a dish-washer & a cartoonist with my digital pen.

I love to draw Srey-Khmer who are Angels, a thousand smiling Apsaras. They're so beautiful to show the world of their charming & magic in the myth of Khmer Race.......

Cheers,
Bun H.

Dear Bun H.
I am really grateful to your meaningful cartoon and the pride as a Khmer.

What you have said is like me too....I have shared the same idea like you...We are Khmer, we have same blood and same struggle for the sake of Khmers...

Let we struggle together to fight with those who are selfish, ignorant leaders and puppets of foreigners...

Our struggle is not yet ended because the domination of Indochina is still hot through their installing government...we are still optimistic that those are installed by Yuan have Khmer mentality like Southern Yuan who were installed by US had Yuan mentality to unify their country...

We are Khmer happy to work with all sides for the sake of Cambodia..

Bravo Cambodia!

Dear Bun Heng,

Every time I see your work, I always said to myself that it would be wonderful if I can draw like you. You have done a wonderful job in putting all your thoughts in cartoons.
You should put all of your work in a book and publish them. I said it before and I will say it again " you are the original". I wish all Khmer people inside and outside of Cambodia have a chance to see your cartoons.

Thomas Nast a political cartoonist for Harper’s weekly helped bring down New York’s corrupt politician William Tweed in the late 1800s. Tweed pleaded to have Nast stop drawing the pictures.

You have done well to help Khmer by keep up with your good work. Your cartoons may one day help bring down those inbred in the government. You could be the next Thomas Nast.

Happy Birthday and best wishes to you and your family!!!!!!!

I am proud of you.

Dear Mr. Bun Heang Ung:
In the 1980s, I always look for your cartoon when reading the Far Eastern Economic Review. You have not only made your mark in the international media but also helped put Cambodia issues on the world's stage. I greatly appreciate and admire your works and determined effords to advocate for the freedom of expressions. The words "Freedom of Expression" might sound simplistic, but Socrates, a Greek philosopher sacrificed his life to inspire future generations of human beings to keep fighting for its exsistence, for he believed that only freedom of expression enbles people to find the truth, which could help them establish a more just society.
Though Cambodia is a democratic nation, it has not fully embraced the comcept of freedom of expression as most democratic nations do. Those, like you, who persist on exercising their freedom of expression have to sacrifice their personal freedoms (and sometimes their lives) in order to do so.
You are no Socrates, Mr. Ung. But, by sacrifcing your freedom to serve others, you are the closest thing to Socrates. And for that, I admire you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely
Koun Khmer--noev Khet Preah Trapang
