According to a claim made by a high-ranking Funcinpec official, Ly Thuch, a minister and F’pec Pursat province MP, resigned from the F’pec party. He decided to join the CPP.
A high-ranking F’pec official to Rasmei Kampuchea in the afternoon of 18 April that Ly Thuch resigned from F’pec recently. The same official said that Ly Thuch is joining the CPP.
According to a letter dated 09 April Ly Thuch sent to Keo Puth Rasmei, F’pec president, he said that the reason he is resigning from the party is because he is too busy with government work under the leadership of Hun Sen. Along with his resignation, Ly Thuch also recalled about the numerous accomplishments and souvenirs he had built within F’pec.
Nouv Sovathero, the secretary of state at the Ministry of Information and F’pec spokesman, told Rasmei Kampuchea on 18 April that indeed Ly Thuch sent in his resignation letter but that the party has not officially made a decision yet. He said that Ly Thuch sent in his resignation letter shortly before the Khmer New year celebration, therefore F’pec leaders have not made a decision yet. He added also that because Ly Thuch is high-ranking party official and a member of the party permanent committee, the decision must be made by the permanent committee itself, and not by the party president.
Ly Thuch is known as a young intellectual who grew up through F’pec rank, and he successively received higher positions. He used to be the cabinet chief of Prince Ranariddh when the prince was the first prime minister during the first mandate government. He also was a former under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Rural Development, then minister at the same ministry, as well as a former chairman of committee no. 3 of the National Assembly. Last year, he received the National Assembly vote to become a minister in the government led by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
An official close to Ly Thuch told Rasmei Kampuchea that the reason Ly Thuch joins the CPP is because he sees the good activities accomplished by the CPP led by the 3 Samdachs (Hun Sen, Chea Sim, and Heng Samrin) in the struggle to liberate the country and the people from the genocide regime (Khmer rouge), and the way the CPP brought peace to the country. Ly Thuch believes that Hun Sen is a very smart leader and he brings in development in Cambodia in several fields, thus raising the prestige of Cambodia both in the region and in the world.

I am not surprise by Ly Thuch resignation from FUNCINPEC base on my two observations: Funcinpec is vanishing and Ly Thuch is a very opportunistic person.
Originally, Ly Thuch used to be a bag boy for Sam Rainsy. He know how to please his boss, so was promoted to work in Ranaridh's cabinet. Soon he become the chief of cabinet, he started to bittely criticise his former boss. Funcinpec cannot provide him any more personal benefits. It is time for him to a new master.

I remember about 10 years ago he came to Canada to promote Func. when Sam Rainsy created a new party and he called Sam Rainsy "Mr clean" who didn't know how to profit on the situation (corruption).

funcinpec people was spoiled by the corruptions and corrupt money they make. now they are willing to do anything to support that lifestyle including selling their souls to the devil. oh wait, they have no soul. yes, right. funcinpec people have no soul, no moral, no ethics, no standard, no skill. they are a bunch of losers out to suck from the country. they did nothing for cambodia. they are only destroying cambodia.
people like Ly Thuch should be condemned, blamed and shamed. they are not fit to be leaders of cambodia.

You are right/Congratualtion, BUT Not Only Ly Thuch but all of Fun cinpec Members or Ranarot Party members have no choice, just join CPP for living...If available space they all will be treated /employed.. as slave and using all their money Grabbed from Cambodia People ,,, It is better than they or Ly Thuch return back to his Overseas home to be employed as Taxui Driver or just ordinary workers...
BUT one thing that I understand thatit is not FAIR for CPP If it uses Ly Thuch or others Politic Tourists and offer them any high Positions or benefits... Beacuse in Cambodia we still have many well-educated intellectuals who were well-trained abroad or locally and having honesty to CPP since 1979.... and they are not emplyed or promoted by CPP so far....
Ly Thuch or other FUN members are real opportunists....
