Lehman Brothers Announces Fulbright-Lehman Brothers Outstanding New Leaders in Finance Program; Partnership to Identify and Develop Next Generation of Global Finance Leaders

NEW YORK, May 8 (AScribe Newswire) -- Lehman Brothers, the global investment bank, is pleased to announce the inaugural winners of the Fulbright-Lehman Brothers Outstanding New Leaders in Finance Program.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables approximately 2,000 individuals from more than 140 countries to study in the United States each year, and the new Lehman Brothers award will identify and honor the most exceptional students studying finance, banking and economics. The Fulbright-Lehman Brothers program will provide a formative professional experience to nine accomplished students in one of the world's most innovative financial institutions.

A grant from Lehman Brothers will provide the 2007 Fulbright-Lehman Brothers awardees, 7 women and 2 men from 8 different countries, with $15,000 scholarships towards the cost of their graduate degrees and the opportunity to participate in the Lehman Brothers summer associate program, in addition to their Fulbright grants. While at the Firm, the students will attend a special orientation session and leadership training. In addition, alumni activities will be offered to ensure that students remain connected with each other and Lehman Brothers following the conclusion of the program.

"It is a privilege for us to be able to recognize these students, who are some of the brightest young talent in the world," said Co-Chief Administrative Officer, Scott J. Freidheim. "This program is a terrific opportunity for these scholars to meet and work with their peers from around the world, and accelerate their development in finance. It is a great investment in the next generation of international finance leaders, and we are proud to collaborate with Fulbright and the IIE to accomplish this goal."

The Fulbright-Lehman Brothers Program is open to all participants in the Fulbright Foreign Student Program who are pursuing their graduate degrees in finance, banking and economics at U.S. universities. The program aims to develop a new and diverse generation of finance leaders, from countries including those that are developing their finance sectors.

The Fulbright Program is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State under policy guidelines established by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) and in cooperation with a number of foreign governments and private organizations.

"The Lehman Brothers partnership with the Fulbright Program will give young men and women from around the world an opportunity to work with some of the most successful business leaders in America," said Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Karen Hughes, who oversees the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Fulbright Program. "Fulbright is our flagship academic program, and this partnership will add immeasurable value to the careers of these rising young leaders."

The new awards will be administered by the Institute of International Education, which has administered major components of the Fulbright Program for the U.S. Department of State since its inception over 60 years ago.

"One of the keys to leadership development is the synergy that is created when Fulbright students have the opportunity to meet, to exchange views and ideas, and to learn from other leaders in a global context," said IIE President Allan E. Goodman. "The new Fulbright-Lehman Brothers Program exemplifies the leadership training elements and the public-private partnerships that make the Fulbright Program unique."

Congratulation to Cambodian birghtest student ! State media should broadcast this kind of news to encourage young Cambodian generation to study hard. Cambodia state TV used to show graduation ceremony of Hun Sen's son, hope that this news should be shown in Cambodia too.

Keep going with your efforts.

Many Congratulations to our young and brightest student. There are many accomplished students that deserve appreciation. But in Cambodia, only when one is clan of Hun Sen will get the full coverage on the national-funded TV though his son buy his own education let alone winning scholarships.
