Electricite du Cambodge (EdC) plans to cut down power for large businesses in order to reduce the shortage of electricity for housing residents who have grown by 180,000 now. Chheung Ung, EdC director, told the Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper on 14 June that in order to reduce electricity shortage for housing residents, EdC plans to cut down power to a number of large businesses and industries, because these businesses already have their own power generators. EdC director said that the power will not be completely cut down. Chheung Ung also said the power consumption of a factory is equivalent to that used by 5,000 to 10,000 housing residents. Therefore, a power cut to factories could provide enough electricity for tens of thousands of other people.
