The Phnom Penh municipality issued an announcement on 15 June 2007 to all vehicle owners traveling in the public streets of Phnom Penh who bear all kinds of fake official license plates (K.P.M.) to quickly get a new (legal) license plate before the city will apply the law. This announcement stated that, currently, the municipality has observed that there are vehicles traveling in the city streets, and they do not have a license plate, or carry fake license plates, or carry old license plates. Therefore, the municipality asks the owners of these vehicles to hurry and apply for a new license plate starting from the day of the municipality announcement. Failures to follow the municipality directives will result in a temporary confiscation of the vehicle until the owners fulfill all the requirements to obtain a new license plate.
