Sunday, July 29, 2007PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - A bomb exploded at a Cambodia-Vietnam friendship monument in Phnom Penh on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of a public park where two other devices were found and defused, police said.
The 10-kg bomb detonated around dawn, causing no injuries and little damage to the stone statue erected after Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia and defeat of the Khmer Rouge in 1979.
"This site represents the friendship of Cambodia and Vietnam. This plot was meant to destroy that relationship," Phnom Penh police chief Touch Naroth told Reuters at the scene.
He said police had no suspects.
The statue, which portrays a Cambodian soldier and a Vietnamese comrade standing protectively over a Cambodian woman and her baby, is in a park near Prime Minister Hun Sen's residence.
Hun Sen and other top members of his Cambodian People's Party (CPP) were with Vietnam's army of invasion and were installed and supported as rulers of Cambodia during Vietnam's decade-long occupation.
In 1998, opposition protesters, who have accused Hun Sen of having too close a relationship with Hanoi, attacked the statue with hammers and set it alight with petrol.
The incident drew a formal protest from Vietnam.

Two thum up,for that hero, if we are under yuon slavery we'll die,now at least we are starting to do some thing,
OH! awesome this guy who did it, he is my hero!
THis bomb might be planned by CPP of Hun sen to blame opposition party because now in Cambodia everyone are hating Hun sen for his criminal activities. This kind of stupid thing of hun sen has been done many times already to blame Sam Rainsy Party.
Every fucken time I walked next to this fucken Vietcong monument, I really feel very degrading as Cambodian! This fucken monument is trying to convey some fucken ideas which didn't even exist! This fucken monument is trying to show that the Vietcong are saving or helping the Cambodian woman and her child! If the Vietcong really save Cambodian people why do 2 million Cambodian people have to die!!!Why?
It is the fact that the Khmer Rouge soldiers were attacking the Vietcong and the Vietcong response back with a full scale invasion of Cambodia to take advantage of the Killing Field! The Vietcong prolong the war for another 10 years which more Cambodian people were dying fighting another Cambodian people!
Remembered! The Vietcong prevented all international aid from reaching Cambodian people for 2 years since the invasion and by then hundred of thousand and thousand more Cambodian people died of starvation! Now tell me! Is this saving Cambodian people by the Vietcong? No! This is more killing by the Vietcong of Cambodian people!
Shame on the Vietcong who claimed as the liberator!
He said she sai it does'nt work at the court, but 04:05pm you might be right, but If Hun Sen try to do like Mr.Tim Sakhorn in Ta Keo province,HUN SEN try to fool him self to all Cambodian again and again and his fate will run out in 2008.
Go home Yuonyiekcongvietnam !
This is very good news. This is tell them that we never giveup to the VIetnam. Only HUN SEN and his cronies server Vietnam. Get out of Cambodia and let Cambodian run its own affair. This is Cambodian internal affair. I am proud of those done this.
Oh! Folks, remember that the G-man or the Hoover’s boys (FBI) is putting over-time in the wake of the incident, that is, they have to spend less time at the bars.
Incidentally, should I help everyone in Cambodia to positively identify the G-man, and effectively use counter-intelligence against them (so you know when you have been probed? The method is rather and deceptively easy.
Further, the CPP government will use someone as a scapegoat. This is absolutely impeccable opportunity for them to do so.
Proud to be koun Khmer! And I’m proud not to have conferred Ph.D. from the useless and fruitless Commi-backed institution.

Hi,
who is the real actor? what do they mean for? it is Kampuchea Krom or Political Party game?
IF REAL HERO....MAY BE DESTROYED ALREADY.....BUT WHO DO IT....FAKE OR REAL....WHO THEY WANT TO CAPTURE THIS TIME...KHMER KROM...POOR THING...HOPE IT REAL OK...DESTROY IT....
Ah Youn Did it so they can kill another Khmerkrom and to cover up Tep Vong problems.
This is terrorism. Vietnam, for whatever she did, sacrified 20,000 of her own and resulted in the fact that millions of Khmers were saved from the Khmer Rouge and their reign of terror. Everybody blames Vietnam but what about the Khmer Rouge. It's a matter of deciding which is the lesser of evils.
There's been a lot of talks but nothing has ever really came up. Something is finally coming up. What this shows is that no one in Cambodia is safe. The perpetrators deomonstrated that it can be done. Cambodia politic will never be the same. Its a new storm. Ohh BTW, vietnam sacrficed 20,000 people to colonize Cambodia. If it wasn't for vietnam's bad intentions on Cambodia in the beginning, the Khmer Rouge wouldn't have risen in the first place. They retaliated because The Pol Pot tried to attack vietnam.
The reason why it's unsafe is because people there make it unsafe. If only Youn would leave Khmer alone, it would be safe. Vietnam's acts of terror upon Khmer is beyond words. For centuries and still now, Viet Nam have been terrorizing and murdering innocent Khmers in the name of idiocy. That statue is an insult, a slap to my people's face and my face. IT WILL GO DOWN. IF VIET NAM AND IT'S PEOPLE WANT PEACE, ALL OF THOSE STATUES WILL COME DOWN. Viet Nam and it's people will get what they deserve in the near future. Until then, I'm glad people are acting upon this hideous, offensive and disgusting rock. This is just barely step one.
