The then-"victimized" Prince Norodom Sihanouk giving a speech in the Khmer Rouge liberation zone in Cambodia, circa 1973. Khieu Samphan, the KR leader who could be charged by the KR Tribunal can be seen applauding next to then-Prince Sihanouk.

(Kyodo) - The Cambodian government said Friday former King Norodom Sihanouk would retain his immunity from any prosecution ahead of the planned trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders.
The government said in a statement that Sihanouk was "a victim of the war in Indochina, caused by the intervention of foreign powers, and of the resultant Khmer Rouge regime in which His Majesty lost 14 members of his family."
The statement was made in response to a recent call by the U.S.-based Cambodian Action Committee for Justice and Equity for Cambodian Overseas for Sihanouk's immunity to be lifted to pave the way for a joint U.N.-Cambodian tribunal to investigate his role, if any, in the deaths of some 1.7 million Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge regime.
According to several publications, Sihanouk, 84, was invited as a nominal leader for about a year soon after the Democratic Kampuchea regime took power in 1975.
Currently, only Kaing Khek Ieu, better known as Duch, a former Khmer Rouge prison chief, is being detained awaiting trial by the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.
Other surviving leaders including Nuon Chea, better known as brother No. 2, Ieng Sary, a former foreign minister, and Khieu Samphan, a former head of state, are living freely.
Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot died in 1998.
Sihanouk abdicated in 2004 in favor of his son, King Norodom Sihamoni.

Hah. "Victim?" That is a really an over-statement, more like a ring leader or perpetrator. He was one of the key figures that influence people to join the Khmer Rouge, hmmm he seems to forget his radio address in asking everyone to leave to the jungles and take forces with the Khmer Rouge. I want justice for my family and his neck should be on the chopping board!
ShooT!!!!!
To be fair in this trial Seihaknouk has to appear at that court, and Hun Sen government has to put Hun Sen on trial too to avoid politic game interfeering or stirring the KR justice ,if those two not attending KR court, that won't be a justice and close that court down that is insulting to two million souls ,or childish games.
khmer pheas khloun
I think the King is innocent. blame the US for causing all that mess.
Hey , Sihanouk forgot his word that he is going to the trial when the KR court is set up. I don't blame any country beside Sihanouk. I blame the one who receive the order from the foreigner and kill their own people. In my village I didn't see any stranger who killed the people I saw only the one that went to the forest marqui that called over and over by Sihanouk.
Sihanouk a victim? Ha! that's like saying Pol Pot saved Cambodia from destruction. This fat-azz king is no better than his penis that he's dipped into.
In Cambodian Constitution, the former King can be exempted from Khmer Rouge Trial only if he is still the King. He is now no longer a king, therefore his immunity is no longer protected. Also, the Khmer Rouge court should be independent and the government shouldn't interfer their job. The Government cannot make any statement from now onward because it can impact to the result of the trial. Therefre, the government should stay out from making any statement involving in this trial. Any government officials who tried to make the statement should be resigned and be prosecuted for breaching this rule,
don't go away old man.who tight up, who should release. If you want to get away from this trail only one think is to commit suicide.Your good thinks
in the past to the Cambodia can't paid of.
Poor old king stand in the meeting with khmer rouge and still claim yourself as victim. You make Pol Pot laughing from hell old king.
Why don't you tell the truth before go to hell.
King Sihanouk who used to be a staunch supporter of anti-communist movement in Cambodia thought that he can outsmart the communist and he was seen standing with the communist and take a picture with the communist because of his inability to preserve Cambodia neutrality!
King Sihanouk used the communist and the communist used King Sihanouk!
"Bush: Iraq Exit Would See More 'Killing Fields'" Cambodia Daily Dated August 24, 2007.
The US, China and Vietnam are the ones who killed our people.
The US started the problem with Vietnam, and China used Sihanouk as a tool to fight the US.
These countries have to pay us back the justice - our grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, siblings ....
Our country is still like a little mouse. And I understand the gov. effort not to do anything to stir up instability in the country when we are actually dealing with elephant and lion. we must think clearly and logically to the benefit of us all. we have to wait and see if the gov. will make the right decision.
SIHANOUK, VICTIM OR VICTOR OF THE KILLING FIELD, SHOULD NOT BE CLAIMED BY OTHERS, BUT THE COURT!!!
IF HE IS INNOCENT, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD LET HIM STAND IN FRONT OF THE COURT. OTHERWISE, HISTORY WILL JUDGE HIM.
Hay guy do not forget Monige too Ok also their son sihanoni the bale.
DON'T FORGET TO HANG AH HUN SEN TO KR TRIBUNAL TOO BECAUSE AH HUN SEN IS AH CRIMINAL AGAINST HUMANITY IN CAMBODIA

Let the old king go, you douchebags. He is near his end now. If you don't know this already, you're probably not a real Khmer. Many Khmer just never want to think or hear about Khmer Rouge or anything related to that topic anymore. We had enough. Only a small pocket of idiots still want to provoke instability and cause violence and chaos in the country. Those are the ones that should be executed immediately so everyone in Khmer can live without having some assholes trying to bomb public places up and cause riots like a fucking lunatics.
Just hang all the khmer rouge and their associate and be done with it.You all know what i mean associate.
And who are behind the KRT?
Is it Hun Sen or Yuon Hanoi?
So the picture of King Sihanouk with Khmer Rouge, and you all find him guilty? And who created Khmer Rouge? It was Yuon, Ho Chi Minh.
YUON have been a continuing presence in Cambodia since before French, during French, after French, POl Pot regime and until now, and they hold high positions from all political stripes. eg., Hoc Lundy, Hor Nam Hong, Khanarith...etc.. How many Khmers? May be Sam Rainsy and a few seeds.
Some in SRP have been killed and been chased out from their own country.
The Khmer Foreign Minister is Hor Nam Hong born from Yuon parents. Does he care for Khmer Monks? NO and NO.
King Sihanouk did not refuse to stand TRIAL as these anti_Sihanouk accused him. He faxed his letter to Heng Sam Rin since in 1999 and he was willing to give up his royal immunity to stand trial, and if he's found guilty he will accept to go to jail. BUT Heng SAM Rin said "It is bad to let the King to stand trial."
Why did the Yuon/CPP block him from standing KRT, and then sent some body like a self promoter Soun Ratha to make noise accusing the King etc..?
While Yuon are slowly transforming Cambodia and Laos into part of their Dai Viet with Khmer Angkor Wat shown in most every Yuon Restaurants/business site they have, then the story of King Sihanouk's immunity must be lifted spreading all over to distract Khmers' attentions from Yuon's serious crimes.
Will you all be HAPPY if HM King Ta Sihanouk accepts to be executed?
You ANTI-Sihanouk want him dead, and so do the Yuon. He is not afraid to die I can tell you that, but the Khmer Rouge in power today block him from testifying.
Khmers should be prosecuted by Khmers NOT by YUON.
To 9:06AM!
I agree 100%! It is so sad that Uncle HO CHIMPANZEE is long death and who can argue with him now!
King Sihanouk had long declared his position and willing to clarify himself before the court!
Now get out of the way, all of you Vietcong slave mother fuckers!
stop it uncle HO 5:57 PM. Sihanouk was not alone, your uncle HO too killed Khmers. why do you always protect your Uncle HO, huh? don't you think your Ho should pay the price for killing Khmers too?
