Former king Norodom Sihanouk has issued a request to UN members of the Khmer Rouge tribunal to meet with him, as proceedings for trials of former leaders of the regime ramps up. The monarch aligned himself with the Khmer Rouge following his ouster by a US-supported coup in 1970.
A small advocacy group last week called for his constitutional immunity to be revoked as the tribunal proceeds.
Tribunal spokesman Reach Sambath said Thursday the UN tribunal office had received the former king's request, but declined to comment further.
The request was to meet with UN spokesman Peter Foster and others.
According to his Web site, the former king requested the officials meet him at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh on Sept. 8. If the UN tribunal officials do not meet him on Sept. 8 between 9 am and noon, the former king wrote, he would not see, talk to or correspond with them "any more."

can we accept this man's word?
Sihanouk is historically known to be a weasel. He alway weasel his way out of trouble. The royal family is notoriously corrupt. They pass down that same mentality to younger generations.
We are talking about Sihanouk. The same man who force himself with virgins from villages. If they don't cooperate his people would threaten their family's safety.
Can we truly except what he says to be truthful? Thats why he must go to trial. We need to present evidence to contradict his lies.
If the court summoned Sihanouk to stand trial, Sihanouk needs to go to see and talk to the court. Not the other way around. If he doesn't show up, he will be arrested by police. This is the way the western court operates. I think he uses Chinese rule of law, not international law.
How can he ask the court to see him in palace with certain hours? What does he think he is? A low class KHMER KING. NO WONDER THAI PEOPLE LOOK DOWN AT US BECAUSE OF THESE STUPID AND UNEDUCATED KHMER LEADERS.
Sihanouk don't be a coward and betray your country and the people go on trial now. We want to see your judgement day while you are alive not not after your dead and rodden in hell.

By knowing very clear that Sihanouk cannot escape out from the trial, instead of cooperate with the tribunal, Sihanouk has used a bully tactic by inviting them to Royal Palace to talk himself out. Indeed that tactic is very bad, because it thread to the security and the safey of the member of the tribunal. If Sihanouk is sincere with this Khmer Rouge Tribunal, he should wait until this tribunal calling him for cross examination. He said he hasn't join the khmer rouge in 1970 but he led the khmer Rouge. What is the different of this two wordings?
I personally have no gut to hate this king ,but all the comments that I have posted over and over just to tell the true do not to believe and trust this king ,he just a cold blood Cambodia distracter ,he is coward ,gutless ,brag about him self ,his brain soak with the communist ideology,he always support youn back then and now ,he acted like he is our grand father or father 's nationalism, now we all find out that,what kind of people he is. The Buddha taught us not to lie,because when we are the liar ,we'll be ending up like him, shame on all of us that gave the trust to this king.
When the tribunal officials visit Sihanouk at the Royal Palace, there will also be a dramatic display of the martial art skills performed by his North Korean bodyguards. This will include coconut breaking (how is that for a human head?), brick breaking (or bone breaking), and sword play (how it can slide through a human neck with just one swing). Then, the audience with the King-Father will begin with the usual diplomatic courtesy.
It has been said that he is the only Monarch in the world to be able to restore the Monarchy after a Republican coup and a communism takeover. The recent challenge shouldn't worry him at all, but he will take part in the drama anyway. He likes that, because it will continue to keep him in the lime light for which he is craving.
Your Cambodian hate your King so much how about giving the land back to Thailand? King of Thailand has no objection to take the land back. Under our King, you people won't be able to caugh. Do or DON'T that is all you have to know.
