Pol Pot Would Have Killed a Rebellious Sihanouk, Hun Sen Says
Chun Sakada, VOA Khmer
Original report from Phnom Penh
28 August 2007
Pol Pot and his cadre would have killed then-prince Norodom Sihanouk in the 1970s had the monarch pulled his support form the Khmer Rouge in the early days of the communist movement, Prime Minister Hun Sen said Tuesday.
His remarks followed arguments made last week by a small US-based advocacy group, the Cambodia Action Committee for Justice and Equity, which said Sihanouk's constitutional immunity in a tribunal should be stripped.
The government said in a statement Friday the former king's immunity was not in jeopardy, and Hun Sen's remarks Monday hammered the message home.
Citing a recorded conversation between of Pol Pot and other Khmer Rouge cadre, Hun Sen said the leaders of Democratic Kampuchea, the official name of the regime, discussed killing Sihanouk, the former prince who was ousted in a US-supported coup.
From Beijing, Sihanouk had made himself the nominal head of a coalition in exile that included the Khmer Rouge.
When he considered resigning from that post, Hun Sen said, Pol Pot and other leaders of the movement planned to lure him back to Cambodia to "solve" the problem "smoothly."
"Pol Pot's meaning of to 'solve it smoothly' is to kill," Hun Sen told onlookers at a pagoda inauguration. "If [Sihanouk] rebelled, he was finished."

I just wonder how Hun Sen knew all these things then. All of these things should be revealed in court process. It is not helpful to talk on media about these if justice is considered by political leaders.
I also wonder how 'Justice' and 'Reconciliation' can work at the same time under the juridiction of ECCC. what kind of 'justice' will be offered to victims by ECCC?
No wonder, it is just political game of Hun Sen to sustain his power. Hun Sen is using Sihanouk through Rattha's letter to gain his popularity and legitimacy.
Read my response to Camdiscers:
Jame and All,
Finally, I can understand your point of view in trying to bring
N.Sihanouk to trial. You have frequently said from the beginning that "you need to sweep off the internal ghost first, so that you willsweep off external ghost later".
In order to balance by critical thought and practical argument, I
don't absolutely disagree with you because by conditions and situations it can be like that. But your theory of eliminating internal ghost first before external ghost is not exactly universal truth.
Especially, Jame or others, if you all look at the Pol Pot's leadership. He is not different from Jame's perspective. Pol Pot hated Yuan terribly; and in order to overcome Yuan, he started his mission by uprooting all of suspects around his butt. The result of this theory left us trauma, suffering and it absolutely become the tool of Yuan (once Pol Pot's enemy). No body destroyed Pol Pot regime, but he destroyed this regime himself following the theory of destroying internal enemy (ghost).
Jame, look at Communist Ho Chi Minh, if you are living in US you can go to Vietnamese towns/villages to ask those learned individuals
Vietnamese such as doctors or lawyers; most of them are democratic activists during the Vietcong war. They were absolutely opposing the Communist Ideology of Ho Chi Minh; but Ho didn't execute them. In contrast, they sent/migrated them to foreign countries. Now those learned individuals must pay gratitude to Ho and they have patriotic consensus that for the national benefits, they will not destroy each others or build hate each other.
Now, you are all considered as learned Khmer oversee who has always felt bad and frustrated with N.Sihanouk, can see more and more of how much Hun Sen has legitimacy, without hesitation, he repeat again and again to protect N.Sihanouk. Doing so, Hun Sen and CPP can gain huge benefits. I can say that these benefits come from making Khmers hate Khmers. These benefits can also deceive Cambodian people not to see who is behind CPP; and not to see the secrete planning of Hanoi inside CPP. But in reality, I hope you agree with me, Cambodian Monarchy Institution has been terribly manipulated by Hun Sen.
At least but not last, Hun Sen is not different from N.Sihanouk or Pol Pot that they are just the political tool under the "win-win strategy" of Hanoi.
Thank
KY
Folks, a short extract right below from NOUTH Chhoeurm's "Mémoire d'un coup d'Etat" will certainly open wide millions of eyes of people who dare to believe that King Norodom Sihanouk was innocent, not involved in the 1975-1979 Khmer Rouge atrocities and should not be prosecuted by the ECCC. Unfortunately for some folks, the text is in French:

hean kong is the Vietcong, watch out folk.
All true Khmer compatriots, ladies and gentlemen,
Cambodia's had cancers that were embedded into her by China+YUONS+Vietminh-CPP-Hun Sen+all royal's crooks through traitor Sihanouk's flesh and blood, also through his YUON's wife Monique and Sihanouk’s clique.
To have a true and lasting peace for Cambodia these cancers have to be removed once for all, either by the law of ECCC-KRT or by any means, as long as the majority agree with.
If these cancers remain inside Cambodia without proper treatments YUONS will continue to swallow us bit by bit every day and China will gobble the whole region without mercy toward Cambodia land and all Khmer people with the last help of NORODOM SIHANOU-HUN SEN.

Even during his so-called Sangkum Reastr Niyum era before Lon Nol's coup d'etat and before the Killing Fields, King Norodom Sihanouk had ordered to shoot and kill thousands of students, teachers, rail workers, factory workers and middle class public servants for simply, as Mr. Nouth Chhoeurm rightly put it, the "delict of opinion". Unfortunately for some folks, the text is in French:

Houn Sen never saw all of them he just repeat from the yourn which let him talks. When we compare with us 's education he was in the 9th grade student at the time that he left to prey marqui and he had one eye that could not see since he was young but he very brave that he was promoted as a commander of battalion in the 4th Kang Poul in the East region in kg Cham province why he knew the khmer Rouge killed 10 prince? Most of the royal family went to West and South-West of the country and there were few people not enough to ten because Lon Nol let them out before April 17 1975.
To sort out problems with Hun Sen is to BOMB him like Saddam. No otherway
To 4:31AM and 4:38AM from me Hean KONG,
I have been giving to all KI Media visitors, both of you included, nothing but the truth. Comments I used to post on this medium are normally supported by articles, extracts and other kind of documents. Somehow, you still lash out at me without any shame that I am either a Vietcong or at least a Vietcong spy.
My friends, I am just an ordinary man working as a teacher of English in a private school in Phnom Penh, stuggling to survive from day to day without much hope of building a good future for my kids. A lot of political parties - CPP, SRP, NRP, HRP you name it - have lured me by dangling in my face not lower a position than an MP candidate or Secretary of State only God knows how many times, but I have always refused their offer. Do you know why? Simply because I want to stay clear of crooks and criminals. I say to my kids that I do not have money, houses or lands to give them when I retire. Therefore, to be fair for my kids, I will not give them for eternity the lebel as either a crook or a criminal. It's an extremely hard life I have to admit. Sometimes, I cry in secret the whole night for not having enough to provide for my family.
Now, please be man enough and asnwer to this question of mine. If I were either a Vietcong or a Vietcong spy as both of you have alluded to above, who are King Norodom Sihanouk and Prime Minister Hun Sen? Are they all saints? Where are the documents or proofs which clearly say that they are all saints?
My friends, ignorance is tolerable, but stupidity is not.
How will King Norodom Sihanouk be remembered in history?
"COWARD"
- He is not man enough to except responsiblity for his own actions.
- He's not a patriot.
- When sensing danger he runs away to another country.
As far as Hun Sen goes...
I am not defending Hun Sen. You can attack him all you want. Bottom line, Hun Sen regime accomplish more in 10 years than the royal family in 700 years.
Enough is said about King Sihanouk and HUN SEN!
I want to point out something here! All Cambodian people agree that at the beginning Cambodia was a neutral country! Then who are some of the major world powers bending on destroy Cambodian's neutrality and fanned the flame of Vietname War into Cambodia in the first place? Do you really think that a neutral Cambodia want to go war or create war for what?
I honestly believe that King Sihanouk would be that stupid enough to join the world powers to take Cambodia to war when Cambodia just emerged from French colony with broken economy, underdeveloped infrastructure, and Cambodian people were still very poor!
Please stop looking at history in a snapshot because everything that happened because of something forces it to happen that way!
What happened in Cambodia is the result of rivalry between United States and Russia and to some extend China and Vietname too!
If you don’t understand domino theory then you don’t know what the fuck you are talking about! So shut the fuck up!

Anon. @ 10:05 A.M.,
FYI and including those Koun Khmers that still not clear, CAMBODIA WAS NEVER A NEUTRAL COUNTRY, PERIOD!
Former King Norodom Sihanouk had declared and appealed to the ASEAN and the Super powers - United States, China, Russia, and United Kingdom, etc., for them to accept Cambodia as a neutral country.
Between 1962 -1965, former King Norodom Sihanouk had made several attempts and lobbied for the convening of an international conference guaranteeing Cambodia neutrality and territorial integrity, BUT TO NO AVAIL.
In mid March of 1965, WITH HIS LAST DESPERATE ATTEMPTED, former King Norodom Sihanouk organized unilaterally a Conference of Indochinese Peoples in Phnom Penh. He issued a call for a larger, truly international conference on Cambodian neutrality. As HE had expected NO ONE SHOWED UP. China, Soviet Union, Britain had showed HIM some sympathetic, and no more.
What was the geo-political ambition and became so transparency about not supporting Cambodia to become a neutral country were the two neighbor countries - Thailand and South Vietnam. They already had geo-political strategized their plans: Mekong River to the West belongs to Thailand and Mekong River to the East belongs to Vietnam.
I'm I manufacturing and/or fabricating this important Khmer history? NO. It is from articles, books, documents, and of course Declassified docs.

Anon. 2:14 PM,
I believed you have mistaken listed #5.
Thank you to both of you for doing good cause for Khmer people.
To Lauk Kulen MONOROM,
Thank you indeed for your sympathy. You have such a beautiful heart which is extremely rare a commodity these days particularly within the community of all Khmers. My e-mail address is this: konghean999200@yahoo.com and my blog is: www.save-cambodia.blogspot.com. Please feel free to visit it at your convenient time.
On the other hand, I sincerely wish to see your friend Mr. Paget SAYERS in Phnom Penh, too. Unfortunately, I won't be available before the upcoming Khmer New Year in mid April 2008 due to my training overseas.
However, we'll keep in touch because our common belief is that we have to do whatever we can to help people who are really desperate for help.
Once again, thank you for your kind words.
Yours Hean,
To 2:30PM
I don't think so! I don't think Thailane and South Vietname have any right to deny Cambodia neutrality because in 1950 and 1960 and later on only Super Power such United States and Soviet Union can deny Cambodia neutrality! Actually Thailane and South Vietname are very pro-Uncle SAM who always want to destroy Cambodia's neutrality since day one because they are the so called "non-communist country" and they want Cambodia to join them to fight against North Vietname which a communist country!
It doesn't really matter how you look at Cambodia during the 1950, 1960, and 1970...Uncle Sam’s DOMINO THEORY play a major role in deciding the fate of many countries around the world including Cambodia!
In responding to the many comments here. I wholeheartly believe that Sihanouk should go on trial because he was deeply involved in engineering a cacmpaignt for Cambodian people to join Khmer Rouge in the early 70s. Also during apex of his tyrant reign he killed so many people that disagreed with his policy and those that believe in western democracy including Preap In, and many others in order to take revenge and stay in power. Also, he was living a lavish, luxuary, playboy lifestyle while his people were suffering. He took time to make movies and relax while the war was brewing in Cambodia.
From my research in Khmer politics and personal observations during the coalition among Funcinpec, Son San party and Khmer Rouge fighting againts Hun Sen in the 80s along thailand border, I caught Sihanouk lied so many times. He Came to New York to seek support from Cambodian people in the US and promised the people that " we can run our country like the United State by electing president and representatives. We don't have to have a monarchy system anymore. Then he secretely negotiated with Hun Sen and made himself king again when he webt back in 1992. He praised Hun Sen and promoted Hun Sen to king status. That is why Hun Sen is known as samdach Hun Sen today.
Not only that he rejected Son San party who were his freind in the battlefield. The patriotic Son San died and his party was destroyed by Sihanouk.
I can go on and on about Sihanouk's faults. Only ignorant people don't see his mistakes and still praise him. If Cambodians continue to be sympathetic with criminals and betrays, we will never find justice in our land because we nurture these criminals. It is going to be cylcle of injustice and violences.
My last word is Sihanouk go on trial and tell the people the truth and don't be a coward and hid behind Hun Sen iron's fist.
If you "wholeheartly believe that Sihanouk should go on trial because he was deeply involved in engineering a cacmpaignt for Cambodian people to join Khmer Rouge in the early 70s." Then other people such as HO CHI MINH the Vietcong leader who used to support the Khmer Vietminh or Khmer Rouge should be invited to trial too!
Please don't forget the ghost of HO CHI MINH because he is waiting for your invitation too!
10:05 AM and 12:05 AM understood the problems. Unlike you many Cambodians are still trapped with all theories blaming Sihanouk.
Sihanouk is not guilty. When the country is at war, there will be lives lost.
These people are damned ignorant but claimed to be not.
With these earthquakes from the anti-Sihanouk and from a little mice sourn serey ratha, it gives Hun Sen a big mark to proclaim "I have to stay in power because I can keep the country in stable."
Now Anti-Sihanouk are losing ground; and they are too frustrated. Not even that they make more enemy.
What a stupid forum???
personal life information, insult each other,...
