In Cambodia, even dogs beg ... let alone the prime minister

Cambodia asks Germany to continue its aid

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has called for Germany to continue its aid for new development projects and push for greater German involvement in commerce and investment, local media said on Tuesday.

The appeal was made during the Monday meeting at Cambodia's National Assembly between Hun Sen and Hellmut Konigshaus, a member of a German delegation which arrived in the kingdom on Aug. 20 for a one-week visit, reported Cambodian-language newspaper the Kampuchea Thmey.

Hun Sen said that German aid has successfully addressed the needs of both the Cambodian government and the people, and asked Germany to expand its commerce and investment sectors in Cambodia and to open bigger markets for Cambodian products.

Hellmut Konigshaus expressed admiration for the Cambodian government's efforts to bring rapid development to a nation which suffered three decades of civil war, adding that he hopes cooperation between Cambodia and Germany will continue to flourish.

Konigshaus also said that Cambodia has successfully implemented the projects supported by the German government in Siem Reap and Kompong Thom provinces.

Dear KI-,

I know you have worked hard for making this site possible. Very Appreciative for your hard work.

However I see sometimes the headline you make is inappropriate. For example, as this one below.

"In Cambodia, even dogs beg ... let alone the prime minister"

Why make such headline for? Based on my reading, the Prime minister of Cambodia has appealed for assistant in the form of projects conducted probably by NGO financed by Germany. The Prime minster also appeals for investments, including finding market for Cambodia products. I see all these as a way of expanding Cambodian economy and finding job for Cambodian people, not begging.

Secondly, this headline totally misleads the readers around the global. when people read this headline, they probably think that 13 million people of Cambodians are beggars, not to mention a few million dogs on the street. This does not create a good image about Cambodia internationally.

I understand that Prime Minister of Cambodia does not lead Khmer nation for a great advancement. However, it would be unnecessary to put the rest behind your unnecessary headline.

Ki, I said what i want to say. please take my message constructively.

Ki,
As Journalists, you should not be swayed by public opinion, only by the pursuit of truth, as close as you can get to it, and the people's right to know, based on you the journalists' ability to access information. In order for the public to trust the press, you journalists must provide factual reporting based on credible sources and information. Plagiarism and false reporting are counterproductive to a free press.

Dear KI,

I support the HEadline you made because we are already painted and known in the world as the poorest of the poorest nations in the world. We are also known as the beggar nation esp, in 2003 after the riot urrupted against the Thai Embassy and the thai government dumbed thausands of Cambodian beggars from thailand. It's well-published in many magazine at that time.

We are all so shamefull and hun sen himself must be responsinle for this as a leader.

I have to agree with post number. Cambodia is still at a stage of assistance, and give Hun Sen credit ( I usually give him very little credit due to much corruption). He did asked for greater investment in Cambodia.

When I was in Cambodia, I found no foreign bank whatsoever within the country. ANZroyal is the closest one, but it operates solely in Cambodia, outside of it's parent company, ANZ. Why is this important? Well, with foreign banks, business transactions are made much easier. My online business which requires the use of paypal, is impossible, since there are no international foreign banks in Cambodia. My brother n' law, a businessman wanted to open an online business using paypal, but that's out of the question.

Paypal do not give Cambodia the "full" benefit of a paypal user. In other words, I can not perform any real international business transaction if I were to open a paypal account in Cambodia.

If a major German or American bank were to open in Cambodia, it would be a huge plus for international businesses and entrepreneurs. Borrowing money in Cambodia is expensive. More so than even the U.S.. More often than not, borrowing involves private parties, instead of a bank.

I have seen some of the articles' names are very inappropriate, especially anything about Hun Sen or his party. It seems that KI truely hates Hun Sen.
