In the next 3 to 4 months, the Phnom Penh municipality will create a new service to collect medical hazards waste. This new service will be separate from the general waste collection service offered by the Sin Try Company. Pa Socheatvong, the deputy governor of Phnom Penh, said during a meeting on this issue held on 22 August, that the medical hazards waste collection service will be handed to a branch of the Cambodian Red Cross to handle. Pa Socheatvong said that the medical wastes affect the environment and they also spread diseases. An official from the health ministry said that medical wastes are divided into 4 types: (1) body parts, (2) syringes, (3) bandages, and (4) medical films which involve chemical and radioactive components.
