A grassroots opposition activist from the remote province of Pailin has been missing for more than a week, and officials say they fear for his safety.

Activist Im Buny was accused of stealing guns by government authorities and has not been seen since Aug. 9 or Aug. 10, said Prum Pat, chief of the border protection unit in Pailin, who claims to be a commander for Im Buny.

Im Buny was facing charges of weapons theft by Pol Sinuon, deputy chief of the border protection bureau in Phnom Penh, Prum Prat said.

Im Buny's family is considering a lawsuit, Prum Prat said, without giving further detail.
