A key Cambodian judge is to leave the country's UN-backed court set up to try Khmer Rouge leaders.
You Bunleng, one of two co-investigating judges appointed to the tribunal, has been assigned to head Cambodia's Appeal Court, whose former president was fired over a bribery scandal.
The AFP newsagency says the moves comes at a crucial time during which he and his counterpart, French judge Marcel Lemonde, are investigating the first cases filed by prosecutors.
After months of delay, the pair in July began reviewing charges against five former leaders of the brutal 1975-79 regime.
Only one of the five suspects -- former prison chief Duch, whose real name is Kaing Guek Eav -- has been publicly named and detained by the tribunal.
Judge Lemonde told the newsagency that international jurists are asking the Cambodians to clarify what You Bunleng's appointment to the Appeal Court meant for future tribunal staffing.
He says he won't comment on this issue until this clarification is made.
