Origianal report from Phnom Penh
31 August 2007
The failing health of incarcerated former police chief Heng Pov is worrisome, a group warned Friday, as he is a potential witness in the 2004 murder of labor activist Chea Vichea.
The slain leader's brother, Chea Mony, who now heads the trade union his brother once led, said Friday he was concerned Heng Pov would die in jail before Chea Vichea's true killers are found.
Two men were hastily tried and imprisoned following Chea Vichea's murder, but his true killers are widely believed still at large.
Heng Pov, once Phnom Penh's police chief, is in prison on a rash of charges including murder and kidnapping.
He could have key information to find Chea Vichea's true killers, Chea Mony said. His family has not been able to ascertain his condition in prison, Chea Mony said, and his group fears the former police chief might be "drugged."
"We know that in the future, Heng Pov will be an important witness to Chea Vichea murder case," he said.
Thun Saray, head of the rights group Adhoc, said he had not seen Heng Pov himself.
"We have gone to the prison several times, but we were denied access to see Heng Pov," he said.
Prison officials declined comment.

I think it is unfair to keep Heng Pov in Jail. He was a longtime ennemy of Hok Lundy and Mok Chito. THerefore, he cannot receive his justice at all. That is Cambodia under Hun Sen.
Heng Pov, without a doubt atleast desserve a fair and just trial. Not lock up with proper lawyer, and rights adocate group visiting him to see his condition. Hok Lundy is as quity or even more quity to Heng Pov.
Curruption!!! as usual !!!
Heng Pov is going to slowly die by poison fed by the prison guards ordered by Viet and CPP. This kind of killing is not new, it's happened everywhere around the world. This kind of assaissination has been carried since thousand years ago through Napoleon,.. Pol Pot, Russian former spy (KGB), now Heng Pov. Hun Sen before he eats someone has to taste food for him first, just like every leader and Kings. Heng Pov will die and the Viet & CPP will say he dies by a natural cause.
Do we need a demonstration just to see Heng POv? What a shit Hun Sen?
But Heng Pov holds a key that could unlock the door crimes of Hun Sen. He was bought and was sold by Malaysia to Hun Sen for multi million of dollars.
He is one of the very important witness. He knows so much more that's why he wil die before he can open his mouth.
