Government warns the ECCC about bringing King-Father to trial

A Cambodian government official today warned that Cambodia will kick out the KR Tribunal (KRT) if it brings the Hero-King Norodom Sihanouk to trial.
Khieu Kanharith, spokesman for the government, issued this statement after a KRT official said that the KRT co-judges or co-prosecutors could invite the former monarch to act as witness.
Khieu Kanharith indicated: “There is no such order! And there must not be any humiliation (inflicted) on the symbol of Cambodia either. If they dare set such order, we agree to kick this tribunal out.”
Regarding this issue, on Thursday 30 August, the Hero-King published a letter posted on his website, inviting foreign KRT officials for a meeting so he can reveal to them all the events which took place under the KR regime.
The invitation of the former monarch was made after a newspaper (The Cambodia Daily) quoted Peter Foster, the spokesman of the KRT, as saying that the co-judges and co-prosecutors of the KRT could invite the former monarch to act as a witness, but that whether, the Hero-King will come or not is another issue altogether.
Peter Foster made this comment after some overseas Cambodians asked the National Assembly to remove the immunity of the former monarch so that he can provide clarification on the accusations made that he used to be a leader of the Democratic Kampuchea regime which is accused of killing almost 2 million Cambodians.
Peter Foster. The KRT public affair officer, told RFA on Friday afternoon: “I know that he (Sihanouk) published his letter on his website. However, the ECCC did not officially receive a copy from him yet up to now.”
In his letter issued Thursday, the Hero-King indicated that he will invite Peter Foster and UN officials for a 3-hour meeting on 08 September, at the Royal Palace, and the event will be filmed to show the clarifications that the Hero-King agree to make. He indicated also that after this meeting, he has no need to go to the tribunal to provide further clarifications.
At the end of his letter, the Hero-King said if the UN officials accept the invitation, but they do not agree on the meeting date set on 08 September, he will not accept to see, nor talk to, nor correspond with the ECCC’s UN anymore.

I am sure that the Yuon Hanoi had ordered Hun xen to threat the Tribunal. Because the Yuon Hanoi a fraid that Sihanouk will reveal the truth about the killing 2.5 million khmers involving Yuon.
Yuon was masterminding in the Killing in Khmer Rouge regime, there were many Yuon operative in Cambodia back in 1975 to 1979,it is the same game Yuon playing like everyday now and then.

This sounds like a PHD from Hanoi who is creating lawlessness speaking. That's right, this is the kind of education that Hanoi has worked very hard to impose (not restore) for the past 28 years, at least. This is the kind of leader that Hanoi wants to call a true friend from the neibouring country.
Justice can never be found without living witnesses, evidences and proofs.
This court was set up, agreeed on and finally approved by Hun Sen (major blocker from court establishment) for the purpose of finding justice for Cambodian victims. He always control Cambodian court, the court can only do what he tells to do. What a joke! It's a Justice my way a la Cambodian dictatorship style. He now wants to do exactly that to ECCC, that's what he learned and followed his great master.
Hun Sen has implicated himself lately for knowing a lot of war time secrets between 1970 - 1979. Both Sihanouk and Hun Sen have involved and served in the rank of the criminal regime. It is perfectly appropriate having them facing the court (remember Khiev Samphan, Nuon Chea and others haven't been brought in for questioning yet. Things will be revealed. Be ready!).

I am not surprised with the comment. This KR thing will never take place.
In the past Sihanouk did not mind about going on the KR trial. He had said in his own word. But Sihanouk is known for a liar. Hun Sen on the other did not want Sihanouk to go on The KR trial all along. He even threatened to eliminate the Monarchy if Sihanouk wanted to testify. Sihanouk and Hun Sen are on the same team now.They polictically keep each other alive. Sihanouk has been praising Hun Sen government constantly. Hun Sen has use all kinds of tactic to stay in power.
These two people don't care about Cambodia and its people. They are only care about their life time personal gain.

Khmers oversea have freedom to speak out against injustice but Khmers in Cambodia are trapped and suppressed by the Hun Sen's government and they afraid for their lives. The UN court show hasn't begun yet and AH SOUN SEREY RATHA is already destroying it! In any show there are many details that build up to the climax to make the whole show complete!
As far as I am concerned this is a UN court show and it is the UN who has the right to decide who or what should be in the show and the role they will play! But now, AH SOUN SEREY RATHA from Cambodian Action Committee for Justice and Equity (CACJE) want to dictate the whole UN show by demanding that King Sihanouk must be in the show! The whole effort by AH SOUN SEREY RATHA has created so many unwanted attentions and now the whole UN show is in jeopardy for the lack of interest and the will by the Vietcong puppet government and not the lack of fund!

My suggestion is get the UN court start moving again with or without King Sihanouk for now! During the trial, the experts can bring many theories and back up with evident that explain how King Sihanouk involved in some way in the mass killing of Cambodian people! When the accusation fly across the court room and I am sure that King Sihanouk will not stand by watching the UN court mudded him and destroyed his reputation and eventually he will be forced by a sense of guilt to come to court to defend himself! There is an English term called Real Politik. Hun Sen and Sihanouk hate each other to the bones. Their nicety/supports for each other is purely for political gains. One needs votes to stay in or continue to be in the leadership, the other needs protection from involing in a court procedure which could reveal his complicity in the killing of innocent Cambodian people. One needs no PhD. in political sciences to see this true motive. I believe in the technical expertise of the KR tribunal jurists that they won't be fooled by all of these uproars and cooly continue their works without any distraction. Remerber one basic thing: everyone is entitled to express an opinion regarding the conduct of the KR trial. Whether such an opinion is right or wrong is up to the court to determine, not Hun Sen, Sihanouk, or Soun Serey Ratha. I hope that the KR Court sees this prerogative clrearly, and that all other actors who are barking to gain whatever personal/political interests understand this, too.

King Siahanouk is a lion king in an iron cage. Everyone used him for a show including China, Youn, and Hun Sen. Sihanouk himself does not know this. He thinks he has been working so work for the Khmer nation but it's China and Youn were the one that own the show. At the end the owners of the show are rich and fat and the performer like Sihanouk has no more job because he is too old and no longer useful.
At the end of Khmer Rouge regime, China grabbed Shinouk from the palace before the Vietnamese could get a hand on him.
My question is why did'nt China come for Sihanouk ealier when Pol Pot him under house arrest from 1976-1979? How come China did not intervene and when the Veitnamese troops invaded Cambodia, China decided to grab Sihanouk, the old lion? I think China needs him for another show. Now he is old and useless. Nobody claims him anymore except Hun Sen who is still bullying and assult him.

It depends. If the court call all the winesses like China, Soviet, and Vietnam too then justice may (only may) at least meet small %, but right now, they don't have the conspirators to stand trial.

This is the issue of HUN SEN who feel the need to use Cambodian constitution to protect King Sihanouk to shut up to conceal his illegal activities with the Vietcong in front of Cambodian people and international community!
Cambodian people need to understand that HUN SEN is in debt to the Vietcong leaders and it is through Cambodian constitution that he can pay all his debt to the Vietcong leaders! From the outside world, it seems that King Sihanouk is willing to follow HUN SEN down to the letter of instruction but if given the chance, King Sihanouk can be the most anti-HUN SEN! King Sihanouk maybe thinking of his young King from the fallout of the Khmer Vietminh or Khmer Rouge UN court trial and it is not good for him to go against HUN SEN because it is HUN SEN who support his young King to be on the throne!
So I say that this is not the issue of King-Father's honor vs. KR victims because it is the nature of politic for politicians to join force with friends or foes to defeat of what they perceive as a threat to their survival! There is a saying that today the people who hang with are your friend and tomorrow they maybe your enemy!
King Sihanouk is too old and resigns to life waiting for the day to die and nothing really matter now because he had been through it all and what is really matter to him is how he spends the last remaining day of his life!
