The NRP has accused that the beating on one of its party members, and causing the latter to sustain serious injuries last week, in Kompong Cham province, was politically motivated. Thav Kim Hor, NRP party vice-president for the Kompong Cham province, indicated that Siek Lim Horn, the NRP party vice-president for the district of Kompong Siem, was beaten up on his head by unknown assailants at 9:00 PM on 27 August, when he was walking. Thav Kim Hor told The Cambodia Daily on Sunday that this beating took place after Funcinpec officials tried unsuccessfully to bring Siek Lim Horn to defect from the NRP. Thav Kim Hor accused that this assault was a political revenge because he said that these people (Funcinpec members) wanted to kill Siek Lim Horn. However, Touch Kim Horn, the deputy police commissioner for the Kompong Siem district, rejected the political accusation, saying that it was due to a dispute stemming from the fact that the victim closed a small road crossing his property which was used by the villagers.
