Thai Police questioning the alleged mother of the young beggar girl. In most cases, the alleged mother is not the real mother, but only a person who would rent or buy a child from Cambodia and bring the child to beg in Thailand while pocketing the money for herself.
A distraught little Bo. The cell phone around Bo's neck is for the alleged mother to call in and check how much money the 4-year-old girl makes at any night.

A Khmer mother was arrested and charged with child abuse for forcing her four year old daughter to beg in the streets at night time.
On 18 October 2007, at 1 AM, Pattaya Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi Chai-niranam received a phone call, from a tourist, that a foreign woman had abused and beaten up her own daughter and forced her to sell chewing gum and beg for money around the beer bars on Soi Bua Khao and Diana Inn Beer Bar Group, Moo 9, Nongprue. Police Lieutenant Colonel Grit Larb-ithisan rushed to the area to investigate.
Officials encountered a young Khmer girl named “Bo” (alias), about four years old, who was crying and being consoled by a tourist. The young girl had many bruises on her arms and legs. Bo said that her mother had taken her from their country and snuck into Thailand. They came to Pattaya to beg in order to pay off debts. Her mother, apparently, has done this for many years.
Everyday, her mother left her near beer bars and she was expected to beg for money from tourists and sell chewing gum. Each day, she made from five hundred to one thousand baht. Her mother left a mobile phone, which she hung around her neck, and called her to check how much money she had made. She came and picked her up every night. Bo’s mom kept all the money that Bo made. If Bo refused to go out begging, she was beaten up, unmercifully.
Bar girls often scolded Bo because she disturbed the tourists. On this particular night, she was left near a beer bar again, but hadn’t made enough money as she was afraid of the police. However, her mother called and bullied her to make more money. She also showed up and started beating her up. At this point, bystanders, who were appalled by what they witnessed, called the police; but her mother had disappeared by the time they arrived.
While the police were interviewing the young girl, Bo, they noticed a woman standing nearby looking at her. Bo pointed to the woman and indicated that she was her mother. The police immediately detained the woman who was, apparently, Bo’s mother. She gave her name as Miss Yung (31), from Cambodia, but was unable to produce a passport. She said that she has been sneaking into Thailand for more than three years. She said that she did not abuse her daughter, but just wanted her daughter to assist her in making money so she could get out of debt. As for the bruises on her body, they were just a result of normal punishments as she had been a naughty girl. However, police weren’t buying this and took Miss Yung to the police station.
At the police station, Miss Yung admitted that she forced her daughter to sell chewing gum and beg for money from tourists. She would normally make one thousand to two thousand baht per day; but, as it was low season, she was only bringing home about five hundred baht, daily. Therefore, she had forced her daughter to sell chewing gum and beg in the vicinity of the beer bars. Only when the bars closed, could “Bo,” finally, go back home. If she didn’t earn enough money, she was beaten up as punishment.
The officials gave Miss Young a stern talking to and charged her under the Alien Act. She was charged with entering Thailand illegally. Young “Bo” was, temporarily, sent to the Youth and Child Rights Protection of Pra-Mahatai Foster Home and will be sent back to Miss Yung before they are deported from Thailand.

Bo should be taken to live at a better place. Yung must be prosecuted by Cambodian government according to the abusive law. Otherwise, Yung will continue to abuse Bo until she is mentally dramatized lead to self suicide. Come on Khmer polices do something.
*sigh* There go another byproduct of the civil war. Yep, this is no difference from the land mine victims and others, and it will persistently stayed with us for a while longer.
Hwo go in to pay for the trip back to Cambodia? 11:51PM? YOU?
Poor for little Bo. She looks more than 4 yrs. She just unfortunate to be Yung's daughter. I have a five year olds girl too. Everyday, she is so happy to go to SK (Senior Kindergarten). After school, she can play, watching TV, reading book... Life is not fair... Looks my five year olds girl already knows how to read and this poor girl is being forced to work and has not started school yet. I think this is a big issue that the Cambodian government should open their eyes to seriously do something about this. The government should enforce a law that it is illegal if parents, in any ways, to prevent their children to go to school.
It is a real shame! This is the byproduct of the Vietcong slave mismanagement and all the fucken corruption going in Cambodia!
When human being has no shame and they become an animal and even an animal is looking after its young!
I am not surprise that Thaicong will use this kind of issue to make Cambodian people look as bad as animal! There are a zillion thing more important than this little Cambodian girl that are going on in Thailane today but it doesn’t get the same attention as this little Cambodian young girl such human trafficking, child abuse, sex slave, prostitution, racial discrimination, corruption, martial law, civil war...This is Thaicong propaganda to dehumanize dirt poor Cambodian people! I have to wonder how many Cambodian workers in Thailane didn’t treat like animals by the Thaicong boss.
If only AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave wake up and pass the fucken anti-corruption law sooner and Cambodian people wouldn't be crossing into Thailane to beg for jobs and moneys! And there has been a lot of talking about the new discovery of black gold and the billion dollars revenue flowing into Cambodia and without a doubt that Cambodia will become another Nigeria!
What's a sham to khmer people and khmer leaders should do something about? to little girl, my heart is crying for you. may god bless you always.
It's a crying shame. Although I don't normally condone to have the poor little girl taken away from her natural mother, this has gone too far. The little girl needs to be taken into proper care without delay.
This kind of practice also happens on the Phnom Penh streets, sometimes right in front of the metropolitan police and the military police. But, it hardly makes the news as it is becoming a "part of the city scenery". You can see boys and girls as young as this little girl begging for money at the following junctions:
- Russian Federation Blvd. and Mao Tse Tong Blvd., near the brand new Tax Department Building.
- Russian Federation Blvd. and Monivong Blvds., near the Banking/Financial District.
They may be hanging out at other busy junctions as well. They squeezed themselves between cars, which stop at the red traffic light, to beg for money with little regards for their safety. Of course, there are older and elderly beggars as well all over the catchment areas.
The gap between the poor many and the rich few is becoming wider all the times. The official corruption and land-grabbing have taken their tolls on the poor population.
Pattaya Thai news has nothing better to do but post news about Khmers murderers, prostitutes, and those who are in dire poverty in Thailand. Fuck that news agency for its racist news.
The Cambodian authority must arrest the 4-year old child's mother and jail this stupid mother for the rest of her life.
How can we do that, 8:35, when don't have job for her? What we should do instead is to jail Ah Khmer-Yuons asses who created instability in our country and deterred job from the mum.
