With the approaching of the celebration of 07 January, the 29th anniversary of the (more than one decade-long occupation of Cambodia by Vietnam and) the liberation of the country from the genocidal regime, prime minister Hun Sen (one of the persons who owed his power to Vietnam) reminded the people not to forget 07 January, the day which allowed the liberation from the yoke of the genocidal black-shirt regime (to which Hun Sen was one of its commanders also). On Thursday, Hun Sen declared: “Forgetting 07 January is like forgetting one’s parents, because if we look at ourselves, the grandfathers and grandmothers, everybody during that time, if they were not liberated on time, will they live today or not? No, they wouldn’t live.” 07 January is considered as a national holiday by the government, as such, all government and private company workers have a day off. There are diverging views regarding this date: the CPP supports the fact that 07 January is a day that toppled the Khmer Rouge regime, and is a day that provide new birth for the people who were freed from the killing by this regime, but for the opposition, 07 January is considered a day of Vietnamese aggression on Cambodia.

on CTN he did not say Prachichun Kampuchea should remember it, but he went on to say that ALL KHMER owe their lives and gratitude to this date.

Me being a Khmer-Krom, owe nothing to see the last piece of Khmer land, Cambodia occupy again by Vietnam and possibly eliminated, on contrary, i was worry. I did not survive because of 07.

When Vietnam ever grateful of Cambodia??? Cambodia allow Vietnam to free itself of the yoke of Chinese by allowing Saigon and Barai to use military training.

When they got freedom, what do they do to our land? They take, that is their gratitude. King Gia Lai came to thrown because of Cambodian helps, when he got there what did he do? Took more land!

It should be said instead that the entire Vietnam nation owe its historical strenght and existence to assistance by the Cambodian alliance, allowing to use territory for training and shelter to displaced citizens.

They show us gratitude for their lives and freedom by taking over our land.

You see Viet celebrating those days of GRATITUDE! OH YEAH I FORGOT, THEY DO! LET SEE, LIST THEM

ARREST OF KHMER KROM MONKS
INTIMIDATION OF CAMBODIAN-KHMER KROM PERSON

DEPRIVATION OF KHMER KROM RIGHTS

yeah, they actually show these gratitudes on a daily basis!

please do not mistake my message as against the vietnamese people in general, this is message against their government and the goverment of Cambodia, that is all.

gracias!

I agree, 7 Jan must not be forgotten.
But the events happend after 7 Jan, must also not be forgotten either: arrest of gevernent civil servants and arrest and Killing of Chinese-born Cambodians by the Vietnameses in 1982, and the Famous Strategic K5 Plan from 1982 to 1989 led by Hun Sen and his master Hanoi. You can forget that? How many thousands of Cambodians died during the 7 years K5?

Dear Compatriots! You cannot separate 5 January to K5 Plan.

Correction above: 7january and not 5 Jan.

Is 7 January day useful for Khmers?

We all have perceived that 7 January day is useful for Cambodian People Party (CPP) only. Kiev Kannaridh has also reaffirmed that this day for holiday also recognizes the killing field in Vietnam by Khmer Rouge soldiers as well.

How about its significance and useful for Cambodians?
The answer is NO, NOT AT ALL ----it is useless for Cambodian nation and her peoples.

Because it is just a bitter day reminding the day that Khmer divided with Khmers, Khmers hated Khmers, Khmer retaliated/revenged Khmers, and Khmers murdered/frightened Khmers.

--- it is the day that the stage for Khmer future, their nation and politics have received only the DAMNATION, and LOSING to foreigner----

But it is fortunate for Khmers that we have had 23 October 1991 that has provided potential to Khmers to having love and forgiveness to each others, and stand up firmly to protest all foreigner aggression/imperialism/expansionism---

Personally, I have no specific political affiliation, I am frankly assuring that:
---Whoever recognize 7 January as the holiday or whatever, are the persons who are endorsing the culture of Khmer hates Khmer, Khmer revenges Khmer, Khmer divides Khmer, and they are serving foreigner only----

----Whoever, recognize 23 October as the holiday or whatever, are the persons who are endorsing the culture of Khmer loves Khmer, Khmer forgives Khmer, Khmer unites Khmer, and Khmers can protect themselves from all foreign invasions, especially Khmers can bolster democracy, human rights respect, and advancement like other civilized countries in the world.
